Tell us about the couple.

Benita with Living Ceremonies: Rob and Phylicia, met on Facebook Dating, Rob was scrolling through when he came across Phylicia’s warm smile and beautiful eyes. He strikes up a conversation and they have been inseparable ever since. Rob was a man with a plan and his plan was to marry Phylicia.

Tell us about the couple’s vision for their wedding.

Benita with Living Ceremonies: When planning for their wedding, Phylicia and Rob knew they wanted their wedding to be elegant and near water. So once they found the perfect venue they were able to start creating their vision along with their wedding planner. Their wedding took place at Neuse Breeze in Havelock, North Carolina. This 5 acre water front estate has its own private beach that creates a breathtaking backdrop for any ceremony

What was their theme and what inspired it? What details were used to create the theme?

Benita with Living Ceremonies: Phylicia and Rob didn’t want the average traditional wedding so they added non-traditional aspects; a little bit of old school with some new school flavor. They incorporated lots of midnight blue, gold and white details in their wedding. The bridesmaids and groomsmen wore midnight blue. For the ceremony, white pews were placed on the lawn with floral arrangements on every pew. A floral arch with clean lines, lush white roses and hydrangeas covered the arch, the wedding ceremony gate entrance, the swing arch and all through the grounds of the venue.

What was the couple’s first dance song?

Benita with Living Ceremonies: You’re All I Need by Method Man and Mary J. Blige

Can you share your favorite memory or any special moments from the day?

Benita with Living Ceremonies: The favorite memory of the day for Rob was the surprise audio recording that was played for him right before Phylicia walked down the aisle and for Phylicia it was holding hands for the first time after jumping the broom. My favorite memory was at the first touch when we prayed together.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Benita with Living Ceremonies: One of the things that was important to Phylicia and Rob was to incorporate aspects of their A-A tradition and culture and spirituality. Spirituality was very important to them, not only did we pray during the first touch, prayer was included in the ceremony and I Cor 13 was displayed through the walk way. P&R added a Yoruba tradition known as tasting the 4 elements (sour, bitter, hot and sweet) to represent the different aspects of a relationship. They concluded their ceremony with jumping the broom.

Talk about a dreamy waterfront wedding! Thank you so much Rob and Phylicia for sharing your day with us and Benita with Living Ceremonies (from Nashville). Special thanks to photographer, Optikool Illusion, for the images. Find more real weddings here!
