Tell us about Frankies and how long you’ve been in business.
Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli are the acclaimed chefs and co-owners of the Frankies Spuntino Group, which comprises the Brooklyn restaurants Frankies 457 Spuntino, Franks Wine Bar, F&F Pizzeria, and now Frankies Nashville in Nashville, Tennessee. The Franks grew up in Queens, New York, spending Sundays observing their Italian grandmothers cook. Though they lost touch after high school, they both followed similar formative paths, training at fabled restaurants in Europe and working in the kitchens of some of New York’s most vital restaurants throughout the 1990s. The Franks reconnected by chance in the early aughts and hatched a plan. They set out to build the neighborhood restaurant of their dreams, a place where they could express the cooking of their childhoods in fresh yet faithful fashion: Frankies 457 Spuntino opened in the heart of historic Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn in 2004 and would soon establish itself as a beloved neighborhood restaurant that also helped shape the modern American dining landscape. The wine bar followed in 2018, the pizzeria in 2019, and Frankies Nashville joined the brand’s repertoire as our first outpost beyond New York in 2023.
How did you get started in weddings?
Weddings and events initially began at Frankies Spuntino Group with my business partners, chefs Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli. Frank F. spent part of his career working alongside renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, owner of Myriad Restaurant Group, where he handled catering and events. Loving to host, the Franks’ incorporated events and catering into this iconic Brooklyn brand. With Frankies Nashville, as co-founder and the local owner-operator, I knew I wanted to carry on the tradition at the East Nashville location. Having grown up in the catering world through my mother’s 30-year career in the industry and gaining nine years of experience with the Franks in Brooklyn, it was a natural progression with both our on-site event programming and off-site catering to help folks execute their weddings, parties, birthdays, and so much more.
What’s the philosophy behind Frankies?
True to the Frankies philosophy, our Tennessee outpost strives to foster community first and foremost. Whether you’re dining with us or planning an event with our team, our goal is to deliver the highest quality at a friendly price, in a warm, decidedly unstuffy atmosphere that feels like a second home.
What are your strengths compared to other caterers?
What makes Frankies Nashville stand out as a wedding and events venue relates directly back to Brooklyn. We’ve always been a full service restaurant, fully focused on the quality of our food, beverage, and level of hospitality that we share with all those that walk through our doors. The events that we help our guests plan are just an extension of what we do best and have done for twenty-plus years–offering a carefully curated menu of food, beverage, and selection of offerings directly from the restaurant whether it’s on-or-off site.
What attracts couples to Frankies (and describe that couple)?
Passion for high quality F&B, inclusive, welcoming hospitality, and the opportunity to center their event around the genuine connections that they have with their guests.
What is trending in your area of expertise?
For our brand in particular, there seems to be less focus on the traditional and more on showcasing a delicious menu with quality dishes, wine, cocktails, and more for the couple and their guests to be able to enjoy. Also planning an event with a hospitality-focused team behind it–we have couples come to us simply because they love the food, love the Frankies brand, and want to be able to share that with others.
