Union Station ~ Nashville
How did you meet?
Robyn: Mike and I were introduced by a mutual friend, Liz on a snowy day in Nashville almost seven years ago at TN Brew Works. We connected and became close friends. After a couple of years of friendship, we realized that we were already together all the time and that we had something special so we started dating! We appreciate Liz so much for introducing us that she actually officiated our wedding ceremony!
What is your proposal story?
Robyn: Mike brought me to the winery, Arrington Vineyards on a Saturday in August, 2020. He convinced me to walk into the vines and he popped the question! He had hired a photographer to take photos of us and invited our friends to come and celebrate with us afterwards. It was perfect!
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).
Robyn: One of our favorite bars in Nashville used to be The Flying Saucer (RIP) which was right next door to Union Station. One night after dinner at Flying Saucer, we wandered over to Union Station and had a drink at the bar there. We instantly fell in love with the hotel! At that point we were just dating but we talked about how cool it would be to get married there. Our wedding was on New Years Eve, so that coupled with the built-in beauty of Union Station, dictated our overall vision for the day. Our colors were the obligatory black and gold for New Years Eve with classic white flowers, greenery and lots of candles! We really wanted the reception to feel like a New Years Eve party, so we did lounge seating and stations for dinner with lots of passed appetizers.
Tell us about your attire choices.
Robyn: I wore a fit and flare Badgley Mischka dress that I found at Adorn Bridal. I thought that the intricate lace and long train went well with the overall feel of the wedding. I chose a long and simple veil and Badgley Mischka shoes. Mike, our fathers and brothers all wore tuxedos from Men’s Warehouse.
Tell us about your wedding flowers.
Robyn: Since Union Station is so beautiful on it’s own, we played off of that with white roses and greenery around the fire place. We also had a lot of candles for the centerpieces and on the fire place.
Tell us about your wedding cake.
Robyn: The cake was a two-tier white cake with textured design. We complemented this small cake with a dessert bar! Lots of macarons, cake shots and cake balls!
What did you do for favors?
Robyn: We put fun New Years gear (glasses, beads, hats, blowers)on the cocktail tables at the reception. These were a bigger hit that we expected!
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
Robyn: The most important things to Mike and I during the planning process were food and music. Since the wedding was in Nashville on New Years Eve, we wanted to be sure that we were throwing a great party and food and music are the most important pieces of a good party to us. We decided not to have a wedding party. This made planning and the schedule for the day a lot easier. We still had our closest friends and family all around us the whole day while we were getting ready for the ceremony and it didn’t feel like we missed out on anything by not having a wedding party.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Robyn: Our favorite parts of the day were the ceremony, the music at the reception and of course, the New Year ball drop! Having a close friend officiate our ceremony made it so special and personalized to us. The band, For A Good Time Call, absolutely crushed the reception music! We never wanted to leave the dance floor. And for the ball drop at midnight, we had a champagne toast! It was so fun and a perfect way to end the evening! We also had a few wedding crashers, which made for a pretty funny story.
What a FUN day!! Huge thanks to Apollo Fields and Robyn and Mike for sharing your New Year’s Eve wedding at Union Station with us!
