Rita, owner of this Nashville wedding cake and dessert studio, has been baking for over 20 years and aspires to create lasting relationships with her clients through her delicious works of art. Tell us about City Girl Treats + how long you’ve been in business.
Rita: City Girl Treats was established in 2015, but have been designing cakes for over 20 years. We are a custom dessert studio located in Nashville, TN. We specialize in unique and one of a kind styled desserts that tend to leave our clients amazed at the artistic element put into each creation. Not only do we create custom cakes, but cakepops, chocolate covered Oreos, dipped pretzels and custom cookies are just a few other things we do.
How did you get started in weddings?
Rita: Our original goal was to focus on small parties and “treats”; but in 2018 a bride reached out to us to do her cake and dessert table. After talking via email and finally meeting, she chose City Girl Treats to do her wedding cake and dessert table. We haven’t looked back since.
What’s the philosophy behind City Girl Treats?
Rita: Our philosophy is two-fold: to create solid and lasting relationships with our clients and to give back to the community. We love doing the wedding, but it’s always exciting to get a call later to do the gender reveal, the baby shower a few months later and before we know it, we’re doing the first birthday! Giving back is also an important part of City Girl Treats. We are apart of a wonderful organization called, “Icing Smiles” and they arrange for local bakers all over the country to provide custom designed cakes and other treats to terminally ill children. We also like to donate to local charities when we see fit.
What are your strengths compared to others in your category?
Rita: When we sit down with a bride and groom, we listen carefully to their vision of what they want their day to look like. There are times when brides aren’t quite sure what they want, but being detailed oriented and (overly) analytical, we’re able to bring the bride’s vision to life. It’s important to give the bride what she wants and how she envisions her special day.
What attracts couples to City Girl Treats?
Rita: Couples are attracted to City Girl Treats for our style, product uniqueness and the level of service we give to each client. They also love that we offer a wide array of desserts and we are a one-stop-shop for dessert tables.
What is the most innovative new product, service, style or other aspect of your industry that brides and grooms might appreciate?
Rita: One of the popular wedding trends today are smaller cakes along with full dessert tables with an array of desserts. The bride and groom enjoy giving their guests options. Dessert tables also serve as a focal point at the reception. They’re eye catching and are often the talk of the party.
