We hear you have a new member of your Tap Truck Nashville Fleet! Tell us all about your cute pink VW bus!

Sean and Kay: We do! “Tot” is a 1966 Volkswagen Type II Bus and is an incredible addition to our small line up! We found her in Franklin, TN and had to have her! She needed a little bit of TLC, but once we cleaned her up and gave her a new coat of paint, she became quite the show-stopper!

What made you decide to add a VW bus to your fleet?

Sean and Kay: While we started with “Dixie” (1960 Ford Panel Truck), we always knew a VW would be an incredible option! The feel and overall “vibe” of a VW bus is a perfect fit the Nashville market! They have such an iconic look that truly elevates our clients’ events (and their Instagram snaps)!

What are some unique features on the VW compared to other trucks you have?

Sean and Kay: “Tot” (like “Dixie”) sports 5, free-flowing taps that are capable of pouring everything from craft beer and wine to cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages! Since we are a mobile beverage company, this obviously comes as no surprise to our clients. What may shock them, however, is the fact that we’ve also added an incredibly unique “photo-op backdrop” to the other side of her! Complete with boho-themed decor and a customizable chalkboard, this feature offers couple a one-of-a-kind experience! While we haven’t done a ton of digging, we’re fairly confident that we are are THE ONLY BUS IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY that has both of these features in one, small, incredibly adorable package!

What was the process like of building out the bus and how did you make the color choice?

Sean and Kay: This project was quite the “labor of love”. When we purchased her, she was neon yellow and full of old camper equipment. She had very little rust and minor mechanical defects, so most of our time was spent on cosmetic items. We enlisted the help of our four favorite “employees” (our kids) and started pulling up shag carpet, removing old furniture, and designing her new look. We spent a lot of time going back-and-forth over the color and style of the bus. We initially thought that something a little more neutral in color would be the best option but eventually settled on a more bohemian look. While we were very particular with the shade of “pink”, we also decided to flip the color pattern. Most two-toned VW buses were painted with a white/cream top and a colored bottom. We’re not completely sure why we decided to do this, but when it came time to paint the bus, we had our paint shop flip the pattern. We, of course, think it turned out beautifully!

What types of events are great for the pink VW bus?

Sean and Kay: Of course WEDDINGS! With the taps and photo-op, our bus is truly a “two-birds-for-one-stone” set up! In addition, “Tot” is a perfect fit for birthdays, baby showers, anniversaries, and cooperate events! Our trucks are about as versatile as they come and we love seeing them rolling through just about every type of event imaginable!

What types of drinks pair well with the bus?

Sean and Kay: While we love a great beer, “Tot” pair so well with a sparkling rose or craft cocktail. Some of our favorites include our Prickly Pear Sour, Honey Peach Tea, and Watermelon Basil Margarita!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your new VW?

Sean and Kay: While being able to pour drinks from the side of classic trucks (and buses) is certainly worth chatting about, the most unique feature of our trucks is their names. People always ask us how we came up with the names “Dixie” and “Tot”. When we were talking through launching our company, we of course shared the idea with our friends and family. Everyone was incredibly supportive, but there was one, very special woman who went above and beyond. As we were discussing what we were thinking with Kaylee’s grandma, she, without even thinking about it, immediately asked us, “How much do you need to start?” While we certainly didn’t expect her to give us anything but prayers and support, she insisted on helping us launch. She said, “My mother blessed me and I want to do the same for you.” Dipping into her personal savings and investments, she sent us a check for an unreal amount of money that, without it, we wouldn’t have been able to be where we are. We are forever grateful for her! Her name is Dixie. Her mother’s name was Tot. We’re so thankful to have their legacies live on through our tiny fleet and, in a way, love being able to keep the real Dixie and Tot blessing, helping, and serving others!
