The Proposal
Emily + Kobi: Our sweet engagement was a complete dream. Kobi sent Emily a text on the morning of January 4th asking how her on-call went. Emily responded “Really bad. Had to intubate 4 patients…” Kobi thought this was the perfect time to ask her if dinner at their favorite restaurant that night sounded good. Emily agreed and the plan was in place. Kobi arranged for his best friends Danny and Liza to be hiding outside of the restaurant to record the whole thing. When Emily awoke from her daytime post-call slumber, she reluctantly showered and told Kobi she was just going to leave her hair wet and not wear make-up, because she was too tired to make an effort. Kobi begged her to please at least blow her hair dry-Emily obliged because Kobi is very persuasive. They had an amazing dinner at Rivermarket in Tarrytown, but it went about an hour over Kobi’s arrangements, so Danny and Liza were waiting in the cold for forever! After dinner, when Kobi asked to walk to see the bridge, it didn’t surprise Emily because they always did that. As soon as they saw the water, Kobi got down on one knee, “Emilyyyy, will you marry me?” Emily bent down closer to see the ring and make sure it was acceptable. She said yes, they kissed, and their friends cheered! All 4 went out to get hot chocolate to celebrate.
The Preparation
Emily + Kobi: We took about 9 months to plan the wedding. Kobi was admittedly the bridezilla and had a to-do list on our big white board at home. After work each day, we’d tackle a new task. The thing that held us together the most was Kobi’s very, very detailed excel spreadsheets. He had one specific beloved spreadsheet for the budget-it did keep us on track, but it was quickly deleted by me after the wedding. My favorite parts of planning were trying on dresses with my two best friends and cake tasting with my grandmother.
The Big Day
Emily + Kobi: Our day was a dream. My bridesmaids and I got ready at my best friend’s parents’ house- where we would get ready for all occasions growing up. We enjoyed a chik-fil-a platter of chicken nuggets while getting our hair/make up done. The boys met up for burgers before getting their tuxes on and heading to the venue. The rest of the night went by so fast in a beautiful blur. We have never felt more emotional and loved.
About the Couple
Kobi is originally from Russia by way of Israel but has been in Brooklyn since high school. He speaks three languages and works in finance. Emily grew up in Nashville, but moved to Westchester NY for her pediatric residency after finishing medical school. They met on the Coffee Meets Bagel dating app and after several dates, decided to travel together to Austin for a wedding. That trip solidified their love for each other. They quickly realized how seamlessly their lives fit together.
Details of the Day
Emily wanted a classic/timeless yet elegant winter wedding. Taking ideas from the Instagram of her favorite wedding photographers, she planned a wedding that included a lot of greenery, gold details, and included the bride and groom’s Jewish heritage. The rabbi and cantor at Emily’s childhood temple were instrumental in planning the timeline of the wedding ceremony in order to include the meaningful Jewish wedding traditions: chuppah, 7 circles, being wrapped in the tallit.
Kobi’s favorite part of the wedding was our sparkler exit! Our guests were gifted with donuts (the day after our wedding was the first day of Hanukkah and jelly donuts are a Hanukkah tradition) and tapered black/white/ivory tapered candles with custom matches tied to them. Emily’s favorite part of the day was seeing Kobi across the aisle for the first time. Emily’s brother walked her down the aisle as both of her parents had unfortunately passed away. She honored both parents by keeping a ring from each of them in her wedding dress pocket and putting a picture of them right in the front pew where they would have sit. Emily’s mom’s best friend is Lisa Silver, the cantor who officiated the wedding, which made the whole wedding even more special.
How was Loveless Events involved in your wedding?
Emily + Kobi: Loveless Events was instrumental in providing us with ideas for decorations and food/alcohol. We were able to use the chandelier and draping included in the package, which fit perfectly into Emily’s ideas of what her wedding would look like. Part of the reason we chose the Loveless Barn is due to the fact that Kobi’s favorite restaurant in Nashville is the Loveless Café. We wanted to introduce our friends and family from out of town to traditional and delicious southern food and the Loveless really delivered. They also were able to ensure we could have an open bar for our guests at a reasonable price-we wanted to keep the good vibes flowing! The Loveless Events came in clutch at the last minute, as well. We found out two weeks before the wedding that we would not be able to use the chuppah from Emily’s childhood temple. The Loveless thankfully had a beautiful wooden one that we could easily add draping and a tallit to-it was so perfect!
What advice do you have for future couples who are planning their weddings?
Emily + Kobi: We really advise all couples have at least a month-of coordinator. If a full planner is within budget-even better. Having a set budget and sticking to it is hard, but making a spreadsheet with all expenses is key. We were able to stay within budget by asking the vendors we loved what we could get for a certain price. Most vendors were willing to work for less than their quoted prices at the expense of an hour or two of their services. Negotiating is hard, but if you start with and are honest about what you are able to pay, most vendors are happy to work within that budget. We also recommend having a wedding website through Zola-it is so user friendly and helpful through every step of the planning process. Of course if you’re looking for a venue with the best food and most organized coordinators, the Loveless is the place to be!
This is beyond dreamy! Thanks so much to Emily and Kobi for sharing and to Kendall Parsons for these stunning photos. There’s no doubt that your timeless winter wedding at The Loveless Barn will inspire couples for years to come!
