LaCoya and Joseph knew just how to make the inside of Oz Arts Nashville shine. They decked out the ballroom with an all-white color palette, draped backdrops, elevated floral arrangements, textured linens, and bedazzled hanging beads. As if the decor wasn’t enough to make guests’ eyes pop, the top-notch entertainment that was provided really was the cherry on top of the cake. Flashing sparklers, a smoke-machine, the bride’s special performance for groom, and an appearance by famous DJ Mannie Fresh really had the crowd going and the dance floor packed. How did you guys meet?
LaCoya: We originally met at a daycare that I was working at. His daughter was a child that attended and I was a floater that floated around to different classes. I always thought that he had someone so I never asked, but for some reason every time he would pick her up, we would lock eyes. We never spoke to each other until her last day. He asked me to put my number in his phone and text him right then, so I did. The text simply said “Hey, this is Coya.” He responded back, “Hey.” We didn’t talk for weeks after that and I thought nothing of it until we ran into each other at a festival but still didn’t speak. He then texted me that night and asked me if I was seeing someone and if I would go on a date with him. The rest was history.
Tell us about your engagement!
LaCoya: Joseph threw me a surprise birthday party and a place called sip and paint. Both of our families were already close prior to us meeting each other (we just didnt know each other), so I was used to seeing everyone together. We painted locks and hearts. When it came time for me to open my gifts, I was put on the stage to open the gifts. This is so normal for me because we always celebrate this way. After I opened my last gift, Jo was behind me on one knee. I turned around and started crying, it was so perfect and all caught on camera.
What was the vision for your wedding?
LaCoya: The vision that we had for our wedding was a luxury but elegant theme. Paige was able to create the wedding of our dreams.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
LaCoya: We splurged on the décor of our wedding. We originally started out with a 20k budget, but with our vision, we quickly saw that it was impossible.
What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
LaCoya: If you are in the midst of planning your wedding, I would advise that you hire a wedding planner that you trust and is reliable because it can quickly turn into something stressful.
Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?
LaCoya: The most memorable time was when Mannie Fresh came out to DJ and no one knew it was him until someone said “Its the real Mannie Fresh.” It was so funny because he never announced himself.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?
LaCoya: We wish that we could go back and relive our wedding because it went by so fast. It was the best experience ever!
