Classic with a hint of sparkle… this best describes Tenia + Hasan’s wedding decor and also their personalities! It all started on Facebook and later came to fruition at church. And when their proposal happened at the Vanderbilt football stadium, the rest was history! It’s no coincidence that the symbolism of their story filtered into their wedding ceremony at Belmont’s (a college) Janet Ayer’s Chapel (a church)! Their guests felt the love on their July day from the sweetness of the ceremony to the dance moves on the dance floor. Tell us how you met!
Tenia: Hasan and I have been friends on Facebook for years because we have a mutual friend from my high school. After years of happy birthday posts, we met in person at my church and quickly knew that we’d be together forever.
How did he propose?
Tenia: After my first date with Hasan, he took me to Vanderbilt’s football field, and we had our first kiss. Exactly one year later, he took me there again and proposed. It was exactly the kind of intimate and thoughtful moment I’d always hoped.
What was the vision for your wedding?
Tenia: I wanted my wedding to be elegant yet simple and romantic. I kept it pretty traditional with touches of modern flair. The bridesmaids were just asked to wear blush and got to choose them from wherever they liked (David’s Bridal, Lulu’s, and one was custom made). The groomsmen all ordered from The Black Tux, and it was super simple and easy for them. The venue was so beautiful that I didn’t want much decor, and just wanted something to accent the front and some decor along the aisle.
What details were used to create your theme?
Tenia: I love pink, so I wanted a lot of romantic shades of blush and ivory. Rose gold and gold were other accents we wanted to add in.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
Tenia: I spent more on my dress and veil and other accessories than I initially wanted to, but we saved by using silk flowers for the bridesmaids, using a venue that gave me a discount for being a student there, and using vendors that are close to us and willing to work with us.
Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?
Tenia: The entire day was such a blur that I’m really relying on our pictures and video to relive the moments. To that end, I would recommend getting a photographer that really understands your wants and vibes with you.
