Tell us about Room With a View + how long you’ve been in business.

Emily: Marathon Village is housed in an historic Nashville landmark that dates back to 1881. The complex produced luxury cars from 1910 to 1914, helping put Nashville on the industrial map in the early 20th century. After years of decline, the property was rescued and revitalized by preservationist and entrepreneur Barry Walker, who purchased the site in 1986 with a vision to restore it rather than demolish it. When the property was acquired, none of the original vehicles or equipment remained. Over time, each piece was brought home to Nashville, back from across the world restored in-house. Today, the only remaining Marathon automobiles in existence sit once again in the original showroom, returning the story to where it began and marking the first chapter of the experience that leads to Room With A View.

Within this setting, Room With A View emerged as one of the village’s most striking spaces. By the 1990s, its sweeping skyline views and raw architectural character began attracting filmmakers, musicians, and photographers. It has since appeared on numerous album covers, in a national UGG campaign featuring Post Malone, and as a filming location for the television series 9-1-1: Nashville. Today, Room With A View stands as both a tribute to the past and a canvas for new stories, an unmistakably original Nashville space enveloped with the downtown skyline.

How did you get started in weddings?

Emily: Weddings at Room With A View had an organic beginning. In the 1990s, Barry Walker hosted legendary New Year’s Eve parties in the space, gatherings that stretched into the early morning hours with the best view in town.

In 1997, the grand staircase became the setting for Walker’s wedding ceremony, the first ever held in Room With A View and the very place where the couple had met the year before at his New Year’s celebration.

From the third floor windows, the Tennessee State Capitol stands in direct view among that skyline. After the ceremony, the couple departed in the red Marathon automobile from the original showroom and drove to the Capitol, where they could see reception unfolding beneath them and all of their loved ones dancing the night away. That night set the tone for everything that followed: weddings here wouldn’t just happen in the space; they would become part of its story.

What’s the philosophy behind Room With A View?

Emily: At its core, Marathon Village is guided by the belief that historic spaces should continue to serve and inspire the communities around them. To create a thriving community of creativity, entrepreneurship, and local connection.

The complex stands as a testament to Nashville’s industrial innovation. Today, that same spirit of ingenuity lives on through its restored architecture and its vibrant mix of local businesses, distillers, retailers, and creative professionals. Rather than allowing history to fade, Marathon Village is all about honoring its past while providing a dynamic environment where ideas flourish and people gather. It is a living example of how preservation and progress can coexist, shaping a space that reflects both Nashville’s roots and its evolving creative energy.

What are your strengths compared to others in your category?

Emily: Room With A View offers something few venues can replicate: an authentic piece of Nashville history, paired with a panoramic 135-degree view of the downtown skyline. Inside the former factory, couples are surrounded by exposed brick, soaring ceilings, hardwood floors, and massive industrial windows that flood the room with light and city views. The result feels intimate, warm, and unmistakably local.

The experience begins long before guests reach the third floor. From the moment they arrive, they step into the original Marathon Motor Works lobby and showroom. Guests can wander through the historic space, admire the restored automobiles, take photos with the cars, and soak in the feeling of having stepped back in time. The journey continues as they ascend the original 1900’s staircase to the third floor, where the venue opens up to sweeping skyline views.

Just as important are the practical details that make the day run smoothly. The venue includes ample on-site parking, a catering kitchen, built-in AV access, ready rooms for each partner, and an open vendor policy that allows couples to truly customize their celebration.

Beyond the space itself, couples often tell us what they appreciate most is our team and the way we care. We are a family-owned business, Nashville-rooted from the very beginning, and we operate with family values at the heart of everything we do. Modern couples appreciate that blend of character and convenience. Every couple who walks through our doors is treated like part of our extended family.

What attracts couples to Room With A View?

Emily: Couples who choose Room With A View are rarely looking for a cookie-cutter experience. They tend to be creative, style-forward, and intentional about the atmosphere they want to create. Some lean chic and modern, others vintage and eclectic, many a mix of both, but all are drawn to spaces with personality and story! They’re the kind of couples who want their wedding to feel distinctly theirs, set against a backdrop that could only be Nashville

With its rich history, sweeping skyline views, and unmistakable Nashville character, Room With A View offers couples more than just a venue — it offers a story woven into the fabric of their wedding day. If you’re searching for a historic Nashville wedding venue that blends industrial charm with modern convenience, this iconic Marathon Village space is one you’ll want to see for yourself.
