Winter Wish Upon a Wedding by Laurie D’Anne Events

It was a chilly December day, but hearts were filled with warmth knowing that Amanda and Sean were getting the chance to celebrate with their winter Wish Upon a Wedding. Through the organization Wish Upon a Wedding, Laurie D’Anne Events and a team of vendors came together for this pro-bono wedding, including beautiful blush colors, playful touches, and wintery details. As the family loves superheroes, the team was also able to incorporate accents of their favorite characters throughout the decor, which is only fitting considering this is one strong family! From the inside-out, the beauty of this day captured by Nyk + Cali Photography is surely one you won’t soon forget! Prepare to fall in love with all the sweet moments below!

Tell us about the couple.

Laurie: Amanda and Sean met on Bumble in the fall of 2017. Amanda was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and is currently undergoing treatment, continuing her five-year battle with Metastatic Neuroendocrine/Carcinoid Syndrome. The couple first heard about Wish Upon a Wedding in September 2019 and began the application process. Wish Upon a Wedding is a nonprofit organization that grants weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal or life-altering illness. In November, Amanda and Sean received a call that they had been selected!

Tell us about the couple’s vision.

Laurie: Wish Upon a Wedding gifts a wedding to the couple (including covering the costs and relieving the stress of planning a wedding), so most of the wedding details are a surprise to the couple. Each individual vendor donates their time, materials, and resources to make the wedding possible. At Laurie D’Anne Events, we prioritized connecting with Amanda and Sean to customize their wedding. It’s important to us to make their wedding unique and special to them. Amanda and Sean were just so grateful and happy for their wedding! Amanda’s overall positivity and outlook on life is inspiring.

What was their theme and what inspired it?

Laurie: Amanda and Sean wanted a romantic and warm winter wedding. They loved blush colors and wanted it to reflect their down-to-earth style.

What details were used to create their theme?

Laurie: Pandy Cotton Candy provided cotton candy to put in all the drinks, which was so fun and huge hit! All the guests absolutely loved them. Amanda and Sean, and their family really love superheroes. Captain America is their favorite one and is extra special for the boys. We found ways to incorporate Captain America throughout the wedding, like the figurine on the cake. Amanda made superhero snow globes for their favors. Amanda fell in love with two of the beautiful wedding dresses from BHLDN had sent her. She was able to wear one for the wedding and one for the reception. It was a surprisingly cold day in Nashville, so Amanda wore a fur wrap for the wedding ceremony that once belonged to Sean’s grandmother.

Can you share any special moments or highlights of their wedding day?

Laurie: Highlights from the wedding included the really intentional and sweet way that Amanda and Sean incorporated their children as part of their wedding. Amanda and Sean have four children, and it was really important for them to have their children included in the special day. Their children were their bridesmaid and groomsmen. One of their sons walked Amanda down the aisle. Their children gave speeches during the reception, and one of their sons performed “Old Town Road” with the band, VIPs Entertainment. For the special dances during the reception, Amanda had a special dance with her son. Amanda and Sean had one of their best friends officiate their wedding. She knows them both well and has walked through the past couple years alongside them, so to have her officiate was really meaningful and personal. Amanda and Sean both wrote their own vows and included a Celtic knot tying to honor their Irish heritage.

Did they have any special requests or unique challenges that you had to work together to overcome?

Laurie: This was the 150th wedding wish that Wish Upon a Wedding has been able to grant. There were multiple media outlets present at the wedding so they could share the story of Wish Upon a Wedding and about this exciting milestone. It was our challenge to balance the media, as well as keeping the wedding a private and intimate experience for the couple and their family and friends. When designing a wedding that is pro-bono from all the vendors, it invites a unique collaboration. There are some limits to what can be donated so you really have to work together to create a cohesive, collaboration. This is a little different than having full creative control. We had amazingly talented, generous people working together to create a perfect day for Amanda and Sean.

At Laurie D’Anne Events, we designate a portion of event proceeds towards producing an event annually with Wish Upon a Wedding. This allows us to offer our services pro-bono to help a couple in love experiencing a terminal or life-altering illness have the wedding of their dreams. If you know of a couple who could be eligible, contact Wish Upon a Wedding for more information.

Congratulations Amanda and Sean! Huge thank you to Laurie D’Anne Events and Wish Upon a Wedding for sharing this intimate and beautiful winter wedding with us!
