How did you guys meet?

Emily: We met through a work friend who thought I should meet him, so I introduced myself and we clicked right away.

Tell us about your engagement!

Emily: [We had a] Halloween engagement after he just got over viral meningitis!! I did not see it coming since he was just recovering. But in sickness and in health we will always be there for one another! He proposed in our home we had started building. We went around and wrote bible verses on the framing and I turned around and he was down on one knee!

What was the vision for your wedding?

Emily: [Our vision was] a classic Arizona western inspired wedding! I love classy but with an edge. I am obsessed with cow hides and cacti, so we had those throughout [the decor]. The black and white attire kept it classy along with our 20 person big band, Moonlighters Big Band, that kept Frank Sinatra playing all night!

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Emily: I am a simple girl so fine lines and black and white [was our theme]. I didn’t want to take away from the gorgeous barn so we didn’t do draping inside. [There were plenty of] clay pots and cactus and champagne to keep it classy. And we were surprised that people enjoyed our old school jazz band as much as they did. My husband and I are both old souls so we loved it.

What details were used to create your theme?

Emily: Orange, green, white, black, some yellow and a little pink were the colors of the night. My bouquet was flawless and let off exactly what I wanted the color scheme to be. The tables were set with green napkins. I wanted cactus everything so the center pieces were so adorable. Laurie D’Anne Events did a fantastic job with my Arizona vision. I love the desert and red dirt!

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

Emily: [We splurged on] florals. Cacti aren’t cheap. But it was so worth it. And the food was so fun and yummy. We did a taco bar with all the toppings and a slider bar. For dessert we had churros and lots of other sweet treats like Rice Krispies!

What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Emily: There is no need to take more than 6 months [planning a wedding] in my opinion. It is plenty of time! It’s so much fun to have your dream become a reality. And when you know you’re marrying the love of your life you can plan in peace knowing this is the right thing. I was an extremely calm bride. My friends were pretty shocked by how calm and easy going I was through the entire process. When you know, you know! Don’t stress. Have a vision, research your vendors, set a budget and spend some on a planner like Laurie of Laurie D’Anne Events. She does it all for you and rocked it! Make it your own and don’t worry about pleasing what your guests may want! Make it what you want! We took a risk by booking the Moonlighters Big Band cause we knew our friends and younger guests wouldn’t like it as much… but we were shocked at the guests that danced the night away with us!

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Emily: We exchanged letters to one another and I recorded myself reading it to him so that he could hear my voice before seeing me walk down the aisle. Inside my letter he wrote me, he gave me a gold ring with an “E” engraved on it. This ring resembles the ring I had when I was a little girl and I had told him I would love to have another one. It made that moment so special and so sweet and I’ll never take it off.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?

Emily: My custom dress was everything I imagined and Olia worked so well with making it exactly how I wanted it. From the veil to the perfect fit and even a reception bow for my hair. The photos were amazing and I can’t wait to see our video! It was the perfect night and we wouldn’t change a thing.

Congratulations Emily and Jared!! Your western inspired wedding could not be more perfect. And huge thank you to Laurie D’Anne Events for sharing this day with us! You truly brought this vision to life!
