Samantha + Cody

The Barn at Sycamore Farms

How did you two meet?

Samantha: Cody and I were introduced to each other through a mutual friend in the hallway of our middle school. From that point forward we were great friends until our sophomore year of high school when we started dating. We dated until our sophomore year of college, broke up, and then reconnected a year later.

How did he/she propose?

Samantha: Cody asked my dad for my hand in marriage, and with the blessing, he reached out to my best friend to start planning. The day before I graduated college, I had a ‘family day’ with my sorority family in my college town. In the city there is a tiny town square that is beautifully decorated around Christmas time, so we decided to capture my last day with some family pictures. We got dressed, drove to the square, and starting walking toward the gazebo. It was adorned with lights and garland – but then I noticed something new. A string of red and white balloons framed the entrance to the gazebo – and then I saw someone standing there. Instantly I knew that I wasn’t taking pictures with my family, but instead, I was walking toward my future husband. He greeted me with a hug and said, ‘I choose you, and I will always choose you. Samantha Lou, will you marry me?’ T E A R S. I muttered a yes and hugged him again, only to turn around to all of my family, his family, and my closest friends cheering us on.

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning? What was your color palette and your style vision?

Samantha: I knew that I wanted our wedding to be simple, romantic, and timeless. So the phrase I often used to describe the style of our wedding was, ‘timeless Romance’. We used navy blues, grays, and mixed metals as a basis for decor. For my dress, I wanted something clean, romantic, and elegant. My personal bridal look was inspired by 1950’s Hollywood Glam – I felt SO beautiful and I had the privilege of wearing my dream dress!

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

Samantha: Some of the unique elements I included for my wedding day were vintage pieces from both of my grandmothers. I wore a pearl necklace from one of my grandmothers, and the diamond in my engagement ring was from my other grandmother. I also cut a piece of my mom’s veil and turned it into the hair piece that I wore in my hair.

Could these two and their wedding at The Barn at Sycamore Farms be any more perfect?! Thank you to Samantha and Cody for sharing your story! Also, thanks so much to Morgan Film Co. and Brittany Jayde Photography for allowing us to see what this day was all about!
