How did you guys meet?

Emily: Though we had crossed paths a few times over the years of growing up in Nashville. We officially met in high school at Nashville School of the Arts. We began dating during Ben’s senior year and my junior year. Now a little over 8 years later, we’ve been pretty much inseparable ever since!

Tell us about your engagement!

Emily: We had both been working non-stop 7 days a week at our family’s wholesale bakery. He woke me up on a Saturday morning that we were supposed to work and told me we were going on a drive. He had my mom covering for us at the bakery. I honestly believed he was just making the executive decision that we desperately needed a day off (we did). When we got down to the parking garage he began walking towards a convertible. (We don’t own a convertible)… We ended up taking a drive down The Natchez Trace in the convertible that he had rented for the day. We stopped at several stops along the trail. But one stop in particular we set out a blanket next to a beautiful creek. Ben popped the question and I said of course.

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Emily: Modern Minimalist.

What details were used to create your theme?

Emily: The venue itself was a huge part of our decor. It’s such a beautiful venue on its own. The white walls were perfect for achieving the minimal look that we wanted. All we needed was a pop of greenery, baby’s breath, hydrangeas, and white roses. We added hurricane glasses with floating candles as well as some small candles scattered throughout. The decor was so simple but so effective in creating the atmosphere we wanted.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

Emily: Pretty much everything was DIY! Plenty of savings doing decor DIY. We splurged on our awesome vendors. Martins BBQ, Sunflower Cafe, Lizzy Oakley Photography, Brindle Film Co., Austin Hoke (Ceremony Cello), Asher Horton (DJ), and PLS Coordinate for day-of coordination.

What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Emily: There is no detail too small when DIYing a wedding. Make sure you don’t have too many responsibilities the day of. I think we both would have benefited if we had delegated more tasks the morning of the wedding. Make sure you have enough time between finalizing details and the wedding day. Take a day off to reset from all of the wedding planning before the big day. Delegate as much as you can the day of. I didn’t do this, but if I could change anything it would be to have a day before the wedding that I wasn’t consumed with wedding planning. Give yourself some time to reflect on what is about to happen.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Emily: There are so many. But I would have to say that one of my favorite moments was directly after the ceremony. Ben and I went back into the bridal room to take some of our bride/groom photos and video. I just remember being so happy wrapped up in Ben’s arms. I was so blissed out that I don’t even think I really heard the directions they were giving us. And the best part is this moment was so well preserved. We have so many photos of these moments and when I look at them it just takes me right back to that feeling.

Stun-ning! Thanks Emily and Ben for sharing your minimalist Nashville wedding at 14 TENN with us!
