How did you guys meet?
Meredith: We both went to Vanderbilt for undergrad, but were a couple years a part. We met through mutual friends once I graduated and Sean was working in Nashville.
Tell us about your engagement!
Meredith: We were in DC visiting Sean’s family. He took me shopping in Georgetown during the day, then we met his sister and some friends at a rooftop bar overlooking the White House and monuments. While posing for a picture, he got down on one knee. Sean surprised me with my family there as well, and we celebrated until the early hours of the morning.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
Meredith: Neither Sean nor I are big dessert fans. My sister owns Happy Belly Nashville – a personal chef company that focuses on specialty diets. She made us a small, paleo cake that we ate for ourselves, while the rest of the guests were served sheet cakes from Publix – guests didn’t know the difference and raved about the cake!
What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Meredith: Choose 2-3 elements of the wedding that you really care about and focus on those. Let other people that are willing to help you plan everything else. I was fortunate enough to find a wedding planner who I completely trusted to handle my vision in Ashley, and my mom Shelly has such a natural knack for party planning. I left mostly everything in their hands, while I focused on the specialty cocktail program, authentic country and rock music, and architectural Vera Wang dress.
Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?
Meredith: Sean and I love posting up at our favorite honky tonks downtown and listening to live music, so I knew I wanted to incorporate that into our wedding day. Our favorite band from Robert’s Western World, Kelley’s Heroes, played our cocktail hour immediately following our ceremony. It was so fun sharing them with our family and friends in town. As our wedding gift, my parents had a live artist painting our wedding as it unfolded. Not only was it a fun focal point at the wedding, but now we have a beautiful piece of artwork and future heirloom hanging in our home depicting our wedding day.
Cheers to a beautiful day!! Huge thank you to Meredith and Sean, as well as Ashley from Posh Occasions for sharing this chic cocktail party wedding with us!
