We are so excited about the name change! What is the meaning behind the name?
Shani: I can’t tell you how many times I have used the word “canvas” when referring to my clients’ faces. Makeup and hair are art forms and I wanted a name that represented that more so than weddings. I wanted a name that felt like my personality. Something that sounds chic, modern, but will do well over time. After brainstorming and looking up every hair and makeup related word on thesaurus.com I narrowed down a list of a few favorites. Canvas + Coif just felt right.
Why did you decide to rebrand your business now?
Shani: Why not? I was literally not doing anything else (thanks Covid) and I needed to focus on something other than baking cookies and watching Netflix. I reached out to a fellow hair and makeup artist in Atlanta to talk through a recent brand refresh she had done and got some great tips. Covid also gave me a time to reflect on my business as a whole and reassess who I want to be working with. I have learned a lot in the past 8 months.
Are there any new changes with your wedding beauty business?
Shani: So many! I am so excited to share them! In my very humble opinion, you can throw a rock in any given direction in Nashville and hit a makeup artist (or a realtor or a musician). I love so many of these people and admire their work. I think we all have niches we excel at and this rebrand is giving us an opportunity to let our niche shine. Moving forward we are focusing on catering to high end wedding planners and couples and only taking a limited number of weddings per year. I have an elite team of talented artists who all have a similar aesthetic and have all worked or still work in commercial beauty. This is giving us an advantage with knowing more about how makeup plays with lighting and lenses. We also really focus on hair and skin prep and crafting a great foundation so that hair and makeup lasts and looks flawless throughout the event. New name, new logo, new website, new team look, new approach, new process, but the same natural hair and makeup we do so well.
What are you most excited about moving forward with your rebrand?
Shani: Meeting new couples for sure but also having the time to really focus on each couple and their beauty needs.
Can brides expect any new services offered with the new rebrand?
Shani: Yes! After booking Canvas + Coif our brides and grooms can do a live video chat with me to talk about all things wedding beauty. I will even do some personal shopping for them and have recommended products shipped to their house to get their hair and skin in wedding day shape. There are also some wedding day perks for our couples like complimentary touch ups and some mail love.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your business?
Shani: I am sure you have noticed by now that I keep saying “couples” and not just “brides”. Men need some hair and skin love too. We are also including mens grooming in our pricing. This does NOT mean we are doing a wedding day haircut or shave! This means we help style their hair, keep the shine down on their skin, and do some extra grooming to give them that confidence our brides have!
