Tell us about your company + how long you’ve been in business.
Kylie Malnar (owner/band leader/vox): We are Nashville’s only all-female event and party band. We formed in 2021 and haven’t looked back!
How did you get started in weddings?
Kylie Malnar: Most of the vocalists in MCQ either knew each other from college or had been in multiple event bands before coming together to form the Queens. A lot of our drive to create this product and become such a force with it was from how we were being treated in some of these other bands. The standard of having to be a size 0 with long blonde curls who can belt like Ariana Grande got old. We understand that some folks have a brand and they feel that they need to stick to what works for them, but there are talented females in this town who are either not getting a chance to share their talent or are straight up being disrespected for not fitting into that mold. We don’t care if you’re a size 4 or 14. It has zero effect on how you sing or play your instrument. We are about making music, supporting each other and helping to throw people an incredibly fun party. That’s why MCQ exists today.
What’s the philosophy behind your company?
Kylie Malnar: We believe in diversity, equity and inclusion. We are hired to bring the party, and we do…end of story!
What are your strengths compared to other wedding bands?
Kylie Malnar : We are 100% women owned and operated. We stay loyal to our brand and every single member from the band to the singers…costume designers…our management and booking team…even the crew behind the wheel of the van on tour or the sound desk at shows…all women. Additionally, we are not a cookie-cutter band. Our show is completely choreographed and our arrangements are highly curated. We don’t play the tunes “top to bottom and onto the next,” we worked hard to make each song a “moment” of it’s own and you can tell from the first chord we play that you’re about to experience something you’ve never seen before. We have two curated shows, one classic and one more modern, or you can choose a hybrid of the two. We have custom costumes so that we can dance & perform while still bringing some style to the party. They were designed to fit the vibe of each show. We are not an “off the rack” act in any sense. This was built from the ground up to stand tall and on it’s own.
What attracts couples to your business?
Kylie Malnar: We love a couple who gets in their car, unashamedly blasts N’Sync or Britney and dances at red lights like nobody is watching. Those are our people!
What is the most innovative new product, service, style or other aspect of your industry that brides and grooms might appreciate?
Kylie Malnar: Private last dances – just the band and the couple. A moment away before the send off to bask in the glow of the best day ever! We live for those.
Thank you so much, Kylie, for sharing your passion with us! We are so excited to see Music City Queens more in this industry space!
