Tell us about your engagement!

Lucy: Gary told me we were going to grab a drink at L27 with his cousins. I thought nothing of it because we normally do stuff like that! I was dressed super casual and he actually told me that I might want to change into something a little nicer. He had never said that before so I was a little caught off guard. I should have known then! So we get to The Westin rooftop and sat down in this cozy booth. We immediately ordered our drinks and then Gary suggested we go outside on the balcony and take a selfie! I don’t think Gary has ever said those words in his life!! Haha. We get out there and he immediately drops to one knee. I feel bad because I don’t even remember what he said. I completely blacked out. After I said yes a million times, the photographer appeared and we had a mini photo shoot with some champagne. While we were taking pictures, I noticed a group of people walking towards us and it was both of our parents! We went to dinner with them at our favorite Nashville restaurant – Adele’s. When we got home that night, Gary handed me a long note that he had written the night before. It was so sweet considering I blacked out during his entire proposal. The entire weekend was so fun celebrating with family!

What was the vision for your wedding?

Lucy: From the very beginning I wanted our wedding to be very classic and romantic. Since it was a January wedding, I was very adamant about having candles everywhere and getting married in front of the fireplace because I wanted it to feel cozy and warm. Our wedding colors were ivory, emerald green, black, and gold. I knew I wanted all white flowers and greenery with tons of candles. My amazing florist helped me pull that part off! I wanted the bridal party to look very classic in all black. The boys wore tuxes and I let the girls pick whatever floor length black dress they wanted. My planner, Erin Pangerl, helped me tie in touches of gold with linens, programs, and other rentals. The whole night was more beautiful than I could have dreamed all thanks to my amazing team!

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Lucy: Our wedding was classic with a touch of modern.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Lucy: A highlight would definitely be our band. From the very beginning, we wanted to give our guests the true Nashville experience. The Jackson Capps Band actually plays on downtown Broadway (Tootsies and Honky Tonk Central). They are AMAZING! Jackson and his bandmates completely blew the crowd away! We didn’t want traditional wedding music and opted for more classic rock and country. At the very end of the night, Jackson and his fiddle player stayed and gave some of the hotel guests an acoustic performance. Gary and I even stayed to listen because it was so beautiful.

What are some tips you can share with other brides planning their weddings?

Lucy: I know first looks aren’t for everyone, but it really was so nice to get our pictures out of the way before the ceremony. We chose to do that so we could make it to cocktail hour and see everyone. After dinner, we spent the rest of the night on the dance floor because we didn’t have to worry about talking to everyone. It’s your wedding – you should be able to enjoy it! Another tip is to just let it be. You can plan and stress over every little detail, but at the end of the day it’s not going to matter if something isn’t exactly perfect. Things definitely went wrong on the day of our wedding, but my planner was so amazing that I didn’t find out until after the fact. Even when I did find out, I didn’t care. All that mattered was Gary and I were married and we had the best night of our lives! Lastly, be as present as possible because the entire day goes by too fast!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?

Lucy: I just want to thank my team. Everyone was so sweet and amazing to work with. If I could go back, I wouldn’t change a single thing and that has a lot to do with them. I think they are the best in Nashville!

Such a stunning day! Congrats Lucy and Gary! And huge thank you to John Myers Photography for sharing this lavish Union Station Hotel wedding with us!
