Keep reading to hear the latest on Laurie’s business…
What invitation services do you provide? Do you offer certain packages or is everything custom?
Laurie: I love being able to create a special design specifically for one couple in mind. About 90% of my designs are completely hand-drawn. One of my favorite things to do is incorporate hand-drawn florals in a suite or an illustration of the couple themselves on a backdrop of their venue. I do provide calligraphy as well as a separate service so couples can relax a little more and all they have to do is stick a stamp on and pass it off to the mailman. All of my packages include their custom design of an invitation, response card and then a mailing envelope for each one. There are so many other options to add on though, so it’s fun to watch a couple really create their perfect suite that complements their big day.
What are some fun and unique design services that you can offer?
Laurie: A lot of my invitation wrap options include pockets or laser cut designs, and oftentimes both! There are over 80 color options to choose from too, in matte and shimmery options. I love to be organized so that part of me is a big fan of the pieces with pockets that open to present guests with all of the information they need for the wedding day.
What trends in wedding invitations are you seeing this year?
Laurie: I’m still seeing a lot of blush, burgundy and navy but I have started to see a trend of green and natural elements, which is such a beautiful breath of fresh air. I anticipate a sunny golden mustard color and more of a peachy hue to take trend – I have been seeing that in some styled shoots I have been involved in and it pairs really well with a lot of different color combinations. Neutral tones are turning a little darker too, people are not afraid to use black and be a little moodier in their accents. It is really beautiful in an invitation.
What do you wish brides knew up front before ordering their wedding invitations? Are there certain timelines to follow?
Laurie: Paper quality is important and so is creating specifically what you need for your big day. There are awesome designs online, yes, but you are limited in a lot of areas there and you won’t be able to feel the paper quality. Also, allow for more time than you probably need especially when working with a designer who is designing from scratch, drawing elements for you and creating something special. That does take time to get it perfect. I’m up front about timelines and deadlines when I meet with clients so they know when to have guest lists finished and when to send out wedding invitations.
Tell us what’s new for Fanciful Ink in 2018!
Laurie: I’m super excited to be partnering with a new printer to be able to offer more paper selections as well as letterpress, foil, thermography and deckled edges. Digital printing is always available, but for those couples who want to pull in those other textural elements, I can now offer that!
Is there anything else you’d like to share about Fanciful Ink?
Laurie: I have designed some logos for some past clients, so I love that I can continue to work with them on their passions and business adventures, or in next steps of their lives like a baby announcement. A lot of people think I only do wedding invitations, and while that is my main focus, I love creating other designs too. Continuing a relationship with sweet clients is always a huge plus too because at the end of the day, it’s about a relationship to me.
