Upscale Barn Wedding at Cedarmont Farm

Opting for an upscale barn wedding, Emily and Jason’s day is as pretty as they come! With a rustic backdrop as must to set the scene, they knew that Cedarmont Farm would be the perfect spot. They booked the all-inclusive package with the venue that included assistance with the entire day’s design along and a timeline of events that kept the celebration running smooth. The result was nothing short of perfection, bringing the elegant, yet rustic vision to life through gorgeous red and white blooms, wooden textures, gold accents, and greenery! Following their outdoor ceremony they headed to inside the barn to celebrate with delicious food and dancing before making their grand exit with sparkles and a vintage getaway car. In short, these images by Melanie Grady Photography are about to make your day a little sweeter with inspiration!

How did you guys meet?

Emily: Jason and I met doing physics research the summer before senior year of college. At the end of the program, Jason asked me if I wanted to date long distance and I immediately turned him down. He gave me 24 hours to reconsider and I relented. I thought, “what’s the worst that could happen?”

Tell us about your engagement!

Emily: I was sure that Jason had missed his (heavily hinted at) opportunity to propose to me outside the Palais Garnier Opera House on our trip to Paris, France. I decided to postpone breaking up with him until we got back to the United States, giving him plenty of time to propose to me *inside* the opera house half an hour later.

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Emily: My theme for the wedding was “upscale barn wedding”. It seemed contradictory, but my intentions were to have upscale flowers, food and decor while highlighting the beautiful wooden interior of Cedarmont’s barn. The colors were inspired by my favorite color of nail polish – SC by Olive and June!

What details were used to create your theme?

Emily: We used the flowers and tables to create the theme. We balanced formal centerpieces of red, white, and light pink blossoms, gold flatware, and white tablecloths with casual cross-back wooden chairs. We also added natural vine runners on the barn’s rafters and a long center friends table to ensure that things didn’t get too stuffy.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

Emily: We splurged on flowers. It was key to my vision that we had a long, full garland on the center table, plus vines in the rafters. Due to COVID and supply chain issues the garland and desired blooms came in at multiples of their pre-COVID prices, but we were determined to have them. We saved in a couple of unexpected places. For starters, my dress came in surprisingly under budget. Additionally, we had a number of guests unable to attend due to COVID and distance, so our attendee list was cut considerably.

What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Emily: I would absolutely hire a full planner. I’ve seen many friends intent on saving money choose to plan the entire event themselves, as well as make a number (if not all) of the decor items. Each has realized that what they save in money (if anything) they more than make up for in time spent. Additionally, I hadn’t realized how much work was required to run a wedding day and was very thankful that someone other than my mother or I was responsible for coordinating shuttles, queuing musicians/DJs, and ensuring everyone got down the aisle.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Emily: The most special moment for me (other than actually getting married!) was the Daddy/Daughter reveal. I’ve always been very close with my Dad, so the wedding day was a big deal for both of us. I will never forget the moment he saw me come down the stairs and said “You look so grown up!” as we both began to cry. Thinking about it now makes me tear up!
