When it comes to classic Chicago weddings, MacKinzie and Trey’s celebration was a total showstopper! From saying “I do” at the historic University Club of Chicago to dancing the night away at the chic St. Regis, their day blended timeless romance with just the right amount of glitz and glam. MacKinzie wowed in a dreamy Viero Bridal ballgown while Trey looked dapper in his white tux jacket — talk about a stylish duo! And the cherry on top? Their unforgettable first dance to Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby,” choreographed by Morgan Mizell of Curtsy Ballroom in just two weeks. With spins, smiles, and plenty of swoon-worthy moves, this wedding proves that love (and a good dance floor moment) never goes out of style.

Chicago

From the first dance choreographer, Morgan: Trey and MacKinzie’s wedding was a classic celebration within the great city of Chicago. With their University Club of Chicago ceremony and reception at the lovely St. Regis Chicago, they provided a perfect scene for a day filled with classic romance. One of the most memorable parts was their first dance, which was coordinated by Morgan Mizell of Curtsy Ballroom. With only two weeks to practice, the couple did everything together to perfect a routine that was the ideal reflection of the two of them. Inspired by MacKinzie’s lovely ballgown, the dance was choreographed with lovely turns as they danced their first dance as husband and wife to Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.” Videographer and photography by Peter Gubernat Photography and Fox + Ivory Photo/Video perfectly captured their perfect day of elegance, love, and the joy of starting their forever as Mr. and Mrs. Rice!

Tell us about the couple.
Morgan: MacKinzie and Trey met online 5 years ago. They are such a sweet and harmonious couple, always considerate of each other and their needs. MacKinzie used to be a cheerleader and Trey is more rhythmic. Bringing those two together in dance was a challenge, but they took it in stride and I followed their lead. They truly are a match made in Heaven!
Tell us about the couple’s vision for their wedding.
Morgan: Their vision for their wedding was traditional and classic while still being sumptuous and extravagant. MacKinzie’s Viero Bridal princess ballgown and Trey’s white tuxedo jacket with black pants set the tone for their classic wedding theme. MacKinzie’s hometown of Chicago lent itself even better due to their amazing venues. They were married at the University Club of Chicago and had their reception at the St. Regis Hotel Chicago. Both lent themselves to that classic style they were looking for!

What was their theme and what inspired it? What details were used to create the theme?
Morgan: MacKinzie and Trey’s wedding was classic in all senses of the word. The bridesmaids wore assorted styles of black dresses by Azazie, contrasting Mackinzie’s princess ballgown beautifully, and they went for white florals by Flowers by Coll. The ceremony was held at the beautiful University Club of Chicago. The reception at the St. Regis served as a beautiful dark and moody background for their first dance and following party! They chose the classic black and white parquet floor for their reception and it was all absolutely gorgeous.
What was the couple’s first dance song?
Morgan: Always be My Baby, Mariah Carey

Can you share your favorite memory or any special moments from the day?
Morgan: Their first dance was truly breathtaking. Incorporating the classical wedding elements along with the groove and swag in the song was so fun to create. My favorite memory was their dress rehearsal, where I put MacKinzie in a beautiful ballgown to match the style and shape of her real gown. After I fit her in the dress, we came out and Trey was gobsmacked! I absolutely loved the look on his face, seeing his bride for the first time (even if not her true wedding dress). It was so beautiful to watch.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Morgan: I just want to thank MacKinzie and Trey for their hard work, friendship, and desire to complete their first dance in just two weeks. Thank you for trusting me and thank you for the honor of choreographing your beautiful dance.
