Sumner + Brian’s Family Plantation Wedding | Nashville, TN

These two Nashville natives, Sumner and Brian had gone to rival area high schools and soon became more than just friends. After dating 8 years, the couple decided to tie the knot with close family and friends in attendance at Sumner’s family plantation. The beautiful home, Rosehill, was designed to the nines and was the perfect backdrop to their southern plantation wedding! And of course there were rich fresh blooms straight from the garden everywhere you turned. Plus, the reception barn was built specifically for the occasion! See all of the couple’s photos from Clark Brewer Photography below!

How they met: Sumner and Brian were both raised in Nashville. Brian attended Brentwood Academy and Sumner attended Harpeth Hall. They met in the fall of 2008 at the very location where they had their wedding, Rosehill. Rosehill is a pre-Civil War plantation home that Sumner’s parents have nourished and grown over 30+ years.

Their proposal story: After college Sumner and Brian got jobs in Santa Barbara, CA. After living on the west coast for 3 years, Brian proposed in February of 2016 on top of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Sumner’s parents started building the Barn at Rosehill in February 2017 with finishing touches on the morning of their wedding! Rosehill is a very special place to both Sumner and Brian.

About the wedding: Their wedding was full of family and friends from their 8.5 year relationship. The ceremony was at Woodmont Christian Church. Their bridal parties were composed of siblings, brothers in law, sisters in law, childhood friends, high school friends, college and post college friends. Brian’s brother was his best man and Sumner’s sister was her maid of honor.

Sumner and her bridesmaids got ready at Rosehill where she had a first look with her dad, Brian’s parents and bridesmaids. Sumner’s bouquet had peonies from her great grandmother’s peonies bush. Brian and his groomsmen spent the morning at his mom’s house just a few miles down the road.

There were many people involved in the wedding that are very important to Sumner and Brian. Clark Brewer, the photographer is a childhood family friend of Sumner’s. Their coordinator, Jill Remy, was a good friend, with her own event company, Jill and Co. Events from Santa Barbara.

As guests arrived at the Rosehill, they watched as the bride and groom took photos in the gardens, were greeted with rose petal topped champagne, and mingled around the pool.

The guests were invited into the barn, followed by Sumner and Brian’s first dance by Ellie Holcomb, another childhood family friend, who’s parents were in attendance.

The bride’s parents said a prayer as each guest had their own mini bread loaf to break bread together in the barn.

The band played as everyone danced, the groomsmen smoked cigars and friends became family.

As guests left, a surprise donut truck greeted them at valet, followed by a sparkler grand exit and a firework show to send off the new Mr. and Mrs. Brian Smith on their honeymoon in Greece!
