Romantic elements mixed with moody details and a hint of celestial vibes, Melissa and Jason’s Nashville wedding day at The Cordelle could not have been more stunning! The couple wanted to keep the day sentimental, yet unique, which was well achieved with the help of their wedding planners Modern Vintage Events! From Modern Vintage Events: Melissa and Jason are a little bit loud and wacky and a little bit private and sentimental (seriously, ask them about their engagement story). When it came to their wedding they knew they wanted something fun and they knew they wanted a Chinese buffet.
It was important to them to plan a fun but meaningful party. What we ended up with was a moody, heartfelt, florally fabulous, disco-ball clad dinner and dance party. We had a somewhat celestial undertone that ended up showing up in paper goods, lighting, their groom’s cake and even Melissa’s shoes.
From Modern Vintage Events: The ceremony (which included a circular floral arbor) started with pre-ceremony cocktails and included songs sung by their friends and their own hilarious and romantic vows. There were a lot of laughs and a few tears. Their outdoor dinner featured moody linens and gold elements, gorgeous dark florals and toasts by those who love them the most. And yes, they did get their Chinese buffet.
After dinner everyone moved inside for a dance party with a lounge feel. The dance floor was situated under a cluster of disco balls and the room was full of textural (think velvet and sequin) linens and seating areas. They added fun personal touches by dancing to a song sung by their friend for their first dance and doing a dance off instead of a bouquet toss. Their groom’s cake was a nod to them and their personalities and featured the exposed brick wall from their apartment (where they love to hang out and play VA), a moody celestial scene and their dog Luke. (Sadly, Luke passed away just a few weeks before the wedding.)
Their friends and family were truly there to celebrate with them and encourage their marriage and relationship. It was refreshing to see so much love in one place.

From the groom: We met about 6 years before we started dating, at a sushi restaurant in Nashville where I worked. Melissa would visit every so often to wind down at our bar with a book and a glass of red wine. She was always so friendly, and always one of my favorites. Our acquaintance turned into a friendship over the years, and we specifically bonded over our love of film. She encouraged me to take action on an event idea that I’d been brewing up for a while but had yet to do anything about, and that event is now going on its 5th year. After not seeing each other for a while, we bumped back into each other (at another sushi restaurant, funny enough) and we have been inseparable ever since.
It’s hard to choose just one favorite from the many wonderful moments. Aside from just being in the same room with so many of our favorite people and surrounded by so much love, when looking back, it was the ceremony and reading of our vows that meant the most to us. We wrote them in our own words, and much like ourselves, they were silly at times and sweet and serious in others… but all straight from our hearts.
From the groom: I will say that being a groom, we typically have quite an easier go of it than our counterparts and for the other grooms out there to try and appreciate all the directions your bride is being pulled in that day and the several days leading up to it, and to just be there for her and listen to her as well as you can. Oh, and don’t forget to dance together!
From the bride: I have two biggest pieces of advice. First of all, take some deep breaths and remember that at the end of the day, this is a celebration of the love between the two of you. Enjoy it! Which leads me to my other piece of advice…. hire an amazing wedding planner and let them do their thing. Our planners (we worked with a team of two) carried so much of the stress that felt overwhelming to us, and allowed us to focus on the reason we were having a wedding in the first place. They became trusted friends, made our dream wedding come to life, and were a crucial part of our big day. Hire planners you like, and then allow them to take the reigns.
