Tell us about Berries n Cream Bakery + how long you’ve been in business.
Chantall: I started this company in March of 2018 as a birthday present to myself and a six-month-old strapped to my back. After being in the food and beverage industry for 15 years I needed extra income and saw a need for desserts for people with allergies or dietary restrictions. Since then I have developed my image as an eco-friendly, food and culture educator, and female motivator.
How did you get started in weddings?
Chantall: I have a friend who was marrying into a family who had different allergies. They choose to do gluten-free, dairy-free pies for their wedding. After that, the rest is history.
What’s the philosophy behind Berries n Cream Bakery?
Chantall: Food and culture education is so important. So often I come across clients who tell me they don’t like a flavor or ingredient. Once I tell them about my process, using local ingredients, making everything from scratch, and why [I do that], they end up ordering it and loving it. Being eco-friendly is such a big part of our culture. After being in the F&B industry for so long I saw how much waste there was and the packaging…. don’t get me started. We can all do a little something to help out the planet. That’s why I focus on eco-friendly packaging, composting, and using as many local ingredients as possible.
Yes women have come a long way to being treated as equals. However, after talking to a lot of women (some old and new, some I’ve known forever others I’m still getting to know) I have found that most of our holdbacks come from what we are taught on how we should think of our roles. Changing the way we think about what we are capable of starts in the home at a young age.
What are your strengths compared to other bakeries?
Chantall: I enjoy educating customers on what I do. Opening them up to new flavors regardless of their dietary choices. I give a creative outlook on what a dessert can look like.
What attracts couples to Berries n Cream?
Chantall: I offer a dietary menu, local ingredients, seasonal menus, and traditional and modern decor.
What is the most innovative new product, service, style or other aspect of your industry that brides and grooms might appreciate?
Chantall: Customers love that I will not only offer classic, vegan, and gluten-free cakes and pies, but I also will create a dessert for those with special dietary needs (i.e. keto, diabetic, organic). These are items that can be difficult to find when look for wedding desserts.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about Berries n Cream?
Chantall: We offer cakes and pies that are classic, vegan, and gluten-free. We use locally sourced ingredients, and strive to be eco friendly.
