Small scale elopements are becoming more and more popular these days, and I absolutely love Lindsay + Taylor’s mix of small and large for their wedding weekend! First, the couple opted for an immediate family only ceremony at a cabin in Leiper’s Fork complete with a book wall (as they are avid book lovers) and a laid-back DIY meal for the small gathering. The next day, the couple hosted a Monday wedding at The Cordelle in Nashville complete with even more personalized details like the space-themed movie projections and hand-drawn caricature place cards for each guest (done by the bride Lindsay!). From the photographer, Jen Creed: Lindsay and Taylor are two of the most thoughtful, intentional, adventurous couples we’ve ever had the joy of working with! They have an incredibly easy-going, head over heels love for each other that is matched by a deep love and caring for their friends and family. While planning their wedding, they initially wanted to elope. However, they knew that the big wedding celebration was also important to their families, and they wanted to honor them as well. So they decided to actually have two weddings! A cabin elopement with just their families, and a big wedding celebration the following day. They worked with their close friend and officiant Stijn, from Belgium, to be sure that both ceremonies were incredibly personal, while also communicating their commitment to each other and the gravity of a marriage ceremony.
Highlights from their cabin elopement: They chose an adorable cabin in Leiper’s Fork (just outside Nashville) for their elopement ceremony. When they arrived, they got an extra surprise with the INCREDIBLE book-filled loft, which was perfect for these two book lovers. Lindsay wore a vintage blush gown, and a bracelet that several generations of women in her family had worn on their wedding days. Their super personal ceremony was attended by their immediate family, their two dogs, and two friends. They wrote their vows to each other in books they had chosen, and had family place letters for them inside their “Murphy Adventures” box during the ceremony. Their rings were inscribed with an adventure quote, and the ridges on Lindsay’s ring represent their love of mountains. Taylor’s ring was made from iron nickel meteorite. After the ceremony everyone gathered inside for a mimosa toast, then out back where Taylor and Lindsay had picked out gifts personalized to each family member. Then they prepared lunch for everyone, and followed it up with Jeni’s Ice Cream and a cake (cake stand made by a friend!), which doubled as a birthday cake for Taylor.
Highlights from their Modern Minimal Celebration: Day two took place at The Cordelle in Nashville, and still included a wedding ceremony, as Lindsay and Taylor wanted their guests to feel like part of their marriage commitment. Taylor had his sisters as his “groom’s girls.” They also had their family members sign their wedding “contract” to signify the joining of families and their support for each other. Lindsay drew caricatures of each guest for their place cards, did the hand lettering on the invitation envelopes, designed their programs, and there were also lots of space themed details for Taylor’s love of space (he had also previously applied for a job at Nasa). They projected Star Wars in black and white during dinner, and had an incredible moon and stars gobo projected during the dancing portion of the reception. The florals (by Basil & Bergamot Flower Farm) were organic and free flowing, and they had a gorgeous arbor to add an extra touch to the outdoor ceremony space at The Cordelle.
