I had the pleasure of meeting Kassie of Kassie and Ben Wilson a few weeks ago. We all had the honor of appearing on Today in Nashville together and they performed a few of their original songs! I was so happy to learn that Kassie and Ben Wilson perform live at weddings! And not only do they perform live at your ceremony and/or reception, they have one very special song in particular called “One More Dance with My Son”. This song is dedicated to the mother-son dance at weddings and is so very meaningful! Take a listen to the full version in the video below:
How long have you been playing music?
Kassie: I've been singing since I was in grade school but I've been doing music full time for 5 years now with my husband, Ben Wilson. It's such a blessing to get to use the gifts God gave you with the one you love. We preform in Nashville 4 days a week and lead worship at our church. We also travel on the road performing different shows, music is our life.
When did you start playing weddings and how did you get into weddings?
Kassie: It's crazy because we have never tried to book a wedding but we play around 4-5 a year. We do music full time so we perform downtown Nashville 4 days a week and travel performing as well. We've booked all our weddings from tourists visiting Nashville or people hearing us on the road. They hear us at a gig, get our business card, then contact us when they begin planning their wedding. It is such an honor to sing on the bride and groom's special day and truly is the biggest compliment ever to be asked to sing for them and their closet friends and family.

How would you describe your musical style?
Kassie: I call myself a country-soul singer and my husband is alternative-folk-rock but at weddings we do ALL types of music. We have sang all genres and will learn songs that the bride and groom want for the ceremony or first dances. When we sing at the reception, we sing all kinds of songs: country, oldies, 80's, 90's alternative, you name it and we do it. We also can connect to an ipod through our system to play all the crazy and fun dance songs like Cha Cha Slide, Wobble Dance, Electric Slide, etc. My husband and I both sing and he plays acoustic and/or electric guitar. It's just the two of us, a husband and wife team, but we produce such a full sound. It makes for an intimate fun time. 🙂
What type of bride would be interested in hiring your band to play at her wedding?
Kassie: Since we are so flexible with our style and song selection, I think we are great for a lot of brides. We sing and play what she and the groom want, because it's about them, not us. We don't normally do a full band, but we have and could if wanted. Just me and my husband usually perform, but we are flexible there too.

Tell us about your song “One More Dance with My Son”. What inspired it?
Kassie: We got hired about three years ago to sing at a wedding in PA and the mother of the groom also hired us to write a song for her and her son to dance to for their dance. It was a surprise for her son and such a special gift. So they were the inspiration for the song. She also hired us to sing at her other son's wedding a year later and we wrote him a song too! Again, what an honor for us and such a special gift for her and her boys.
What has the response been to the song at weddings?
Kassie: The response has been amazing and so sweet. Every mama that hears it just weeps, in a good way. I personally feel like there are so many songs out there for the bride and father but not the groom and mother, so this song is special in so many ways. We've had the honor to sing it at several weddings and love singing it every time. Every mama always says “this is the perfect song for me and my son”. It melts my heart every time.
Is there anything else you'd like to share with brides about your music?
Kassie: To the bride: Your wedding day is so special and we would be honored to be a part of your unity and celebration. We don't take it lightly and it's truly a blessing to sing on the bride and grooms big day. We can sing as little or as much as you'd like. We do ceremonies only or ceremonies and receptions or just receptions. Me and my husband, Ben are a great team and we would love to be a part of your special day.
