Andy King, the event planner who rose to viral fame from the Fyre Festival documentary, and Craig McBlain are set to tie the knot in a highly anticipated Scottish castle wedding! The couple recently shared details of their unique love story and upcoming nuptials on The Wedding Reporter Podcast.

From Venice Beach to Scottish Castle: A Modern Fairytale
Their journey began unexpectedly at a bar in Venice Beach, California. Craig, on a post-Australia backpacking trip, and Andy, already a renowned event planner, had a brief but memorable encounter. “I was ordering a beer and Andy was like, ‘Oh my God, where’s your accent from?’” Craig recounted. Their paths diverged, but fate (and LinkedIn) brought them back together. After spotting Andy on Netflix, Craig took a chance, sending a heartfelt message via LinkedIn, which led to their first official date and Craig flying to New York to see his first Broadway show with Andy.
A Sentimental Proposal at Sunset
Six years into their relationship, Andy and Craig got engaged in a moment perfectly suited to them. While on their farm in New York, a place deeply special to their early relationship, they hiked up a hill with their dog, Cooper, at sunset. With a miniature bottle of champagne, they decided it was the right time. “It wasn’t our traditional get down on one knee and have a photo shoot… but it was perfect for us,” Craig shared. The idea for a Scottish castle wedding sparked shortly after, while watching a movie set in a Scottish castle.

A Destination Wedding Extravaganza at Colmonell Castle
Finding the perfect venue proved to be a challenge, with most castles booked years in advance. However, through an Airbnb search, they discovered the stunning and fully restored Killochan Castle in Girvan, Scotland. This incredible venue, now owned by an American family, sleeps 44 people and offers the perfect backdrop for their dream wedding.
With approximately 220 guests attending, the couple is planning a truly immersive Scottish experience. As Andy, a veteran event planner, explains, “we’re hosting two weddings because the welcome party the night before is for the same 240 guests.” This pre-wedding celebration will feature local food trucks and music, setting the tone for an unforgettable weekend.
Embracing Scottish Traditions and Local Flair
The wedding will be a vibrant blend of American and Scottish traditions. Guests are encouraged to embrace Scottish heritage, with many American friends researching their family clans to wear appropriate kilts. Andy will be wearing “trues” (trousers) matching Craig’s kilt, which is made from his mother’s Hogg clan tartan. Local Scottish companies are even providing kilt rentals for guests, making it easy for everyone to participate.
Sustainability, a cornerstone of Andy’s event planning philosophy, will also be woven into the wedding. Flowers will be locally sourced from a nearby farm and the castle’s own property, with girlfriends of the couple creating the arrangements. Food trucks will serve dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, including a “Chippy” (fish and chips) truck and a pizza truck offering unique options like haggis pizza. Local musicians, including a bagpiper greeting guests upon arrival and the popular Scottish band The True Loves, will provide entertainment. A surprise musical performance, featuring bagpipes and renowned musicians who have even played at the White House, promises to be a highlight.

Beyond the Wedding: A Book and a Mission
While focused on their upcoming nuptials, Andy also revealed exciting news: he is writing the first book about the true story of the Fyre Festival, set to be released shortly after the wedding. The couple also hopes their wedding, which will be featured in People.com and various LGBTQ+ publications, will inspire and positively influence others, particularly those in intergenerational relationships. As Craig aptly puts it, “Age is just a number.”
Andy and Craig’s wedding promises to be a remarkable celebration of love, family, and Scottish culture. Nashville Bride Guide wishes them a truly magical day!
