How did you guys meet?

Phylicia: Once upon a time, two individuals found love amidst of online dating, debates on WWE, hiking frequency, Memphis rap legends, religion, and legal arguments.

Their first date took place at a local DC restaurant, SALT. Phylicia, an attorney/lobbyist, arrived early in a red outfit straight from work. Keith, a tech dude by day and pretend TV lawyer by night, showed up ten minutes late. They debated a 4th and 26th play in a Packers vs Eagles game that Keith clearly hasn’t gotten over, the greatest WWE wrestler— Keith vouched for Doink the Clown while Phylicia argued for the Nature Boy Ric Flair (wooooo)—and whether wrestling is real or staged. Obviously real 🙂

This debate (oops date) naturally led to a second date, which turned into an impromptu pub crawl. Phylicia was delayed by an hour due to Amtrak being, well, Amtrak. By the time she arrived, Keith was in good spirits. The discussion heated up again this time over Memphis rap legends; Phylicia preferred 8Ball & MJG, while Keith leaned towards Three 6 Mafia.

After surviving many harrowing adventures like hiking the treacherous Billy Goat Trail in Great Falls, VA, the pot liquor vs brine debate, and a Thievery Corporation concert with only a little blood shed, it all culminated in a surprise proposal in Singapore where they promised to always choose each other by embracing love, laughter, and their strong opinions. Here’s to a lifetime of playful debates, good music, finding beauty in the little things, and lots of random legal words being thrown out daily as Keith pursues his career as a TV lawyer.

Tell us about your engagement!

Phylicia: We got engaged on December 26, 2024, in Singapore, at the very top of the Singapore Flyer—after Keith had attempted to propose three times before without my knowing. He arranged a private capsule so we could take in the breathtaking beauty of the country at night.

As we reached the highest point, with the beautiful night skyline around us, Keith got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said “yes.”

It was an unforgettable moment. Singapore has always been my favorite country, filled with memories I already cherished, and now it holds an even deeper, more meaningful place in my heart.

What was the vision for your wedding?

Phylicia: We envisioned a celebration that blended traditional charm with modern sophistication. Our décor was intentionally simple yet elevated, designed to complement the natural beauty of the Saidee Gallery at the Noelle Hotel rather than compete with it.

At the heart of our planning were four pillars: family, faith, food, and fun. We wanted the day to feel like an unforgettable gathering—an incredible meal shared with the people who have loved us, inspired us, and poured into our lives over the years.

Bringing everyone together in Nashville, a city that holds such deep meaning for our relationship, made the celebration feel even more special.

What details were used to create your theme?

Phylicia: For our color scheme we chose French/dusty blue, rose pink, champagne, and gold. Hydrangeas—especially blue ones—are our favorite flowers, and since pink has always been my favorite color, champagne and gold became the perfect accents to tie everything together. We wove hydrangeas throughout the entire design, from our wedding invitation suite to my bouquet, all the way to the menus and programs. Our floral arrangements featured a blend of pink, blue, and white hydrangeas, along with ruscus, salal, dusty miller, baby’s breath, anemones, roses, carnations, hypericum, and blue thistle.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

Phylicia: I definitely treated myself when it came to my wedding dress, the welcome bag goodies, and the beverage package—no regrets at all. As for anything DIY, I happily opted out. Luckily, my dad and his close friend stepped in, took an old mirror, refurbished it, and transformed it into the most stunning mirrored seating chart. It ended up being one of my favorite details of the entire day.

What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Phylicia: My biggest pieces of advice are to breathe and to trust your gut. I didn’t do nearly enough of the first and definitely stressed myself out more than I needed to—but everything worked out in the end. Trust yourself throughout the process. You are not obligated to accept the prices or packages people suggest. Take the time to research, understand average costs, and feel confident before signing any contract. If something doesn’t feel right or a price doesn’t make sense, listen to that instinct. You know what works best for you, your vision, and your budget.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Phylicia: There are so many special moments, here are a few:

1) Choosing the items for our welcome bags was so much fun. We filled them with things that felt personal to us, and my favorite by far was a room scent we both love from Sydney Hale. We ordered their travel‑size sprays in bulk and put one into each bag. Our guests loved it so much that many ended up buying full‑size bottles for themselves.

2) As a surprise, one of my best friends purchased fat head cut outs of me and my husband. Those fat heads were the highlight of the reception. I have so many pictures of people posing with them!

3) The first look – having that alone time with Keith before the wedding was so intimate and lovely.

4) Dancing with my father was one of my favorite moments.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?

Huge thank you to Phylicia and Keith for sharing their celebration at Noelle Hotel!
