After hiking and getting engaged at the top of Bishop’s Peak in California, Maddison and Nick hiked down to a waterfall for their Fall Creek Falls engagement session. The woodsy vibe and outdoor scenery allowed Sara Bill Photography to get creative and capture shots that are out of this world! With each being as unique as the next, enjoy these serene photos!
How did you get engaged? Tell us about your proposal!
Maddison: We took a trip to California and hiked to the top of Bishop’s Peak in San Luis Obispo with some of the future groom’s best friends. They were completely casual the whole way up to the point where I didn’t even think twice about the fact that one of them was carrying a professional camera with him.
We got to the top, which overlooks the beautiful SLO neighborhood below, and the friend with the camera asked us to all get together for a group shot. After this, he told us he wanted couple shots so the other friends moved out of the frame. That’s when he dropped down on one knee, pulled out a ring, and said “the real reason why we came up here is because I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” I accidentally shouted some obscenities followed by a loud “YES” and the friend proceeded to whip out a bottle of champagne from his hiking pack, which we toasted together on top of the mountain.
How many guests are you expecting?
Maddison: 160
What’s your wedding budget?
Maddison: $25,000. We’re trying to stick to it and we’re doing so by allocating certain amounts to each vendor and item. We’re probably going to go a bit over, but not by much!
Who have you hired for your wedding team so far?
Maddison: Sara Bill (photographer), Marathon Music Works (venue), Olive + Birch (florist), DJ Mindub (music), and Eat Well Nashville (catering)!
What’s your wedding style?
Maddison: Elegant with a splash of rustic.
What’s your most fun purchase/hire to date?
Maddison: Sara has been so much fun to work with! She’s incredibly talented and has been very helpful and made us feel confident and at ease during our engagement session. Marathon Music Works has also been amazing to work with. The entire staff is so creative and helpful and they’ve really allowed our vision to come to life.
What aspect of being engaged has surprised you the most?
Maddison: How excited everyone is when they find out we’re engaged! It doesn’t matter if we’ve only known them for 5 minutes- they’re always so excited to ask questions and hear all about it.
What have you most enjoyed about being engaged?
Maddison: Same as my previous answer! I have also loved being able to get super creative with my fiancé and plan all the little details as well.
Tell us about your engagement session. Where did it take place?
Maddison: We did our engagement session at Fall Creek Falls, about 2 hours outside of Nashville. We hiked down to the waterfall and actually got in the water for a few pictures.
What was it like working with your photographer?
Maddison: Amazing! Sara is incredibly talented and all around just a wonderful person. She is very professional and highly organized, which made the session flow very smoothly.
What did you like most about the session?
Maddison: I loved all the little tricks Sara used to get us comfortable in front of the camera. She would give us silly things to say to each other or ask us to whisper something we love most about the other person to remind us why we were there. I also love how unbelievably creative she is. She was willing to do ANYTHING to get the perfect shot.
Would you recommend the photographer and why?
Maddison: Absolutely 110% Sara is a truly gifted photographer who is the best in the business. She is also very easy to work with and fun to be around!
