Tell us about your engagement!
Alisha: Colton and I were hosting Thanksgiving for my family in 2017. It was the first time he would spend significant time with my mom, brother, and his family (including two silly two year old twins), and we were both excited and nervous! A week before my family arrived, Colton showed me a picture of a ring he “created” for a proposal, but he said it wouldn’t be ready for 3 months. Colton promised to show my mom the picture of the ring and confirm his plans to marry me during her visit. The last day of their trip, we took my family to the dog park to kill some time before taking them to the airport. On the way there, I made fun of Colton for being so dressed up when he knows our dogs love to get muddy paws on our new clothes. As we were walking through the trail, Colton told me he left their leashes and needed to go back to get them. Halfway through the trail, we finally see Colton leisurely walking toward us. I, of course, sassily asked him why it took so long. He ignored me, dropped down to one knee, and asked me to marry him right in the muddiest part of the trail! Now every time we take our pups to the park, I get to pass that special spot 🙂
What was your theme and what inspired it?
Alisha: I would describe our theme as “simple, clean, and family-oriented”. We knew we wanted a small wedding from the beginning, and, through the years, we’ve each cultivated a core group of friends with deep bonds. I love the simple, clean style of whites and an abundance of greens, and that inspiration paired perfectly with the dark wood floors, tables, and bar of The Reserve.
Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?
Alisha: My favorites moments of our wedding were watching my brother DJ the event, and dancing with my best friends, uncles, mom, and husband to Timber.
What are some tips you can share with other brides planning their weddings?
Alisha: The best compliment I received on our wedding day was that it felt like everyone there was a big family. So I would say my number one tip is invite the people who warm your heart and bring you joy! My next tip would definitely be focus on food (all anyone talked about was the food). We did comfort food, catered by The Reserve, and it was a great decision even at the beginning of summer. Do your own flowers, but get YOUR bouquet done professionally. Finally, I would say stay present and tuned in because the day REALLY does go by so quickly, and you will miss your family and friends once they leave.
