How did you guys meet?
Elizabeth: We met during our junior year at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), where we were both part of the SMILE Fund—an investments club on campus. We first got to know each other while attending a finance conference in New York with the club. At the time, I didn’t think much of it… even when Grant (after a few too many drinks) told me I wore too much makeup. I didn’t appreciate it then, but we laugh about it now! We started dating our senior year of college.
Tell us about your engagement!
Elizabeth: In early February of 2025, I casually stopped by a jewelry store and I showed him a photo of the style of ring I liked. Fast-forward to May, he took me back to the same store and explained that custom rings took two months—just to throw me off the trail. So when we planned a beach trip to Jacksonville, Florida, in June, I wasn’t expecting anything at all. While I was spending the day with my friend Anna—getting our nails done and picking out dresses for “beach pictures”—Grant was scouting out the perfect proposal spot. The next evening, we went to Little Talbot Island with our friends for photos. I even joked, “This would be the perfect time for a proposal,” still totally unaware of what was coming. I asked him (again, joking) if he had a gift for me, and he replied, “I thought you were going to stop bringing that up!” When it was finally our turn to take photos, we did a few couple shots and I started walking away, thinking we were going to head to our dinner reservation. I turned around and there he was—on one knee. He said, “I have a gift for you.” I was completely shocked. I could barely process what was happening, but I said yes—and it finally sunk in on the drive back… we’re engaged!
What was the vision for your wedding?
Elizabeth: The vision for our wedding was to be married in the Greek Orthodox Church with our reception being surrounded by friends and family. Our venue vision was a rustic building with string lights – which Room with a View captured well!
What was your theme and what inspired it?
Elizabeth: Our wedding theme was modern – it was inspired by Pinterest boards/photos of coastal New England weddings.
What details were used to create your theme?
Elizabeth: Details we used to create our theme was a color scheme of blues, greens, and whites. Our bridesmaids wore pale yellow dresses and the groom’s suit was a light green. Our florals included hydrangeas, butterfly ranunculus, hanging amaranthus, and other greenery and filler flowers. We had candles and sage green napkins to match the color scheme, which elevated the decor at our venue.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
Elizabeth: We splurged on photography, catering, our wedding day outfits. We saved on florals – we DIY’d the centerpieces the day before with our parents and bridesmaids which was a special moment! We also saved on some of our decor by purchasing through Amazon/Hobby Lobby.
What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Elizabeth: Advice we would give would be to plan in advance. We made a spreadsheet early on which allowed us to get our vendors in a timely manner. Also, planning out the day of and working with a month-of-coordinator is something we would highly recommend! Also, after our rehearsal dinner, we had a welcome reception/cocktail hour for family and friends. We highly recommend this because on the wedding day couples are not able to talk to family/friends in depth due to the schedule of the day.
Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?
Elizabeth: Our special moment where we read to each other things we would strive towards before heading to the church ceremony. Our first dance was another special moment because we had a dance choreographed for us using the song Video Games by Lana Del Rey. This was a very special moment for us and our family and friends.
