Caroline + Ryan’s story starts in the most charming southern town you’ve ever seen. Walking down main street in Bell Buckle, TN makes you feel like you’ve stopped in time – truly. It’s home to The Webb School – a private day school where Caroline + Ryan’s parents are faculty. It wasn’t until they had grown up and gone off to college that they realized their relationship was more than just a friendship between two “faculty kids.” And it’s no surprise they wanted to go back to where it all started for their elegant southern wedding. A family-only ceremony in the garden at Ryan’s childhood home, a reception in Caroline’s parents’ backyard, and a whole lot of gorgeous details in between. This day was intimate, classic, fun, and thoughtful in all the best ways. Perfect for a couple like Caroline + Ryan. See it all in Lindsay Campbell Photography‘s photos below!

How did the two of you meet?
Caroline: We grew up together as children, went to high school together at the Webb School, and were good friends throughout; but didn’t get together until we had both graduated from college and returned to Bell Buckle, Tennessee.
Tell us your proposal story!
Caroline: On vacation in Cuba, Ryan surprised me after dinner one night but pulling out my grandmother’s engagement ring, which my mother had given Ryan, and got down on one knee in the middle of a plaza in Havana.
Tell us a little bit about your wedding.
Caroline: We wanted simple, classic details that felt like us. Our French blue and champagne color scheme had the light and romantic feeling we were going for – it was the hottest day of the year, so we wanted things to feel airy! We chose to have the ceremony and reception at our parents’ houses to keep things intimate and unique to us. We loved being able to have a private, family only ceremony followed by a big reception with all of our friends.
What was most important to the two of you while planning?
Caroline: We didn’t want to be so caught up in the details that we lost sight of why we were getting married in the first place. Choosing a photographer was so important to us, and we’re so glad we splurged on that, because the day passes by so fast that going back and seeing the memories we created has brought us such joy after the fact. We were also so fortunate to have the space and ready-set venues at our family homes that we were able to skip that expense, and since we were so low-key we didn’t have or need a wedding planner.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Caroline: Spending time getting ready and relaxing with our bridal parties before the ceremony was such a sweet time for us. After the ceremony, when we were done taking pictures, one of the groomsmen’s wives brought us Wendy’s nuggets to tide us over before the reception. The reception was so fun and carefree — you can see that from the fact that the groomsmen all changed into Hawaiian shirts!
