How did you guys meet?
Nina + Alex: We met when we were both living in Chicago. There was a trendy club called Fremont that used to host a popular brunch on weekends. We were both there with separate groups of friends on a cold January Saturday. We hit it off immediately and didn’t leave until dinnertime.
Tell us about your engagement!
Nina + Alex: Nina’s family has lived in the NYC area for the last few years, and Alex and Nina were visiting them over Thanksgiving. One evening, Alex and Nina went into Manhattan to enjoy the holiday atmosphere, and Alex suggested taking a horse drawn carriage ride. While on the carriage ride in Central Park, Alex proposed.

What was the vision for your wedding?
Nina + Alex: Alex and Nina both wanted to host a fun and memorable party for their family and friends that felt authentic to them. They limited the number of traditional wedding elements so they could enjoy their own party, too! Nina wanted to plan a wedding that she would be excited to attend, so everything was very focused on the guest experience.
What was your theme and what inspired it?
Nina + Alex: The overall aesthetics were inspired by Nina’s Indian culture. While the wedding was not a traditional Indian wedding, the ceremony music, color palette, appetizers/desserts, design, and and bridal attire were all inspired by Indian culture.
What details were used to create your theme?
Nina + Alex: Indian cultural elements were a source of inspiration – traditional bridal henna was used as inspiration for the stationery and for the cake. Lotus candles served as cocktail hour decor. Florals were vibrant pinks and orange to indicate the warmth and celebratory nature of the event. We also had edible flowers as cocktail garnishes that were in our color palette.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
Nina + Alex: We splurged on food and florals – keeping all guests fed and happy is important to keep everyone in good spirits! It was also important to Nina to have a stunning backdrop for the wedding ceremony. We saved on alcohol since our venue was BYOB.
What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Nina + Alex: Go on a honeymoon right after your wedding if you can find a way to make it work! Planning a vacation on top of a wedding feels very overwhelming, but it’s amazing to get away right after the wedding to extend the newlywed bliss and so worth the extra planning effort.
Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?
Nina + Alex: There are a few – Nina’s dad gave a beautiful toast, our friend split his pants while doing the worm on the dance floor, and our grand exit were all incredible moments.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?
Nina + Alex: We fully enjoyed it, which is the most important thing in the end!

If you’re planning a wedding, take inspiration from their advice—focus on what truly matters to you as a couple, and don’t forget to enjoy the celebration! Huge thank you to Nina and Alex for sharing their wedding at the Tennessee State Museum.
