There’s something undeniably magical about a rainy day in Nashville…especially when it becomes the backdrop for a love story as sweet as this one. A Tennessee native, Kaitlin, and her Minnesota-born fiancé, Cal, embraced the unexpected weather during their Nashville engagement session, proving that a little rain only adds to the romance. As storm clouds rolled across Middle Tennessee, the couple explored the city’s timeless elegance while Kara Faye Photography captured meaningful moments before their wedding day. Adding an extra layer of sentiment, the bride-to-be wore a cherished necklace and watch passed down from her great-grandmother, honoring the family heritage that has played such an important role throughout their journey together. From heartfelt details to breathtaking rainy-day portraits, this Nashville engagement session beautifully blends Southern charm, family tradition, and most importantly LOVE.

How did you get engaged? Tell us about your proposal:
Kaitlin: Cal is on the road frequently for his job. He had been on the road for a week leading up to the proposal. On a Sunday morning, Cal came to pick me up for church. It is our Sunday morning tradition to leave a few minutes early so we have time to have a quick breakfast date before church service begins. However, on this particular Sunday morning, I was running very behind, yet Cal was waiting for me in the living room. In the reflection of the bathroom mirror, I could see him pacing the floor. I was oblivious that he had a ring in his pocket, so I assumed he was simply waiting on me to finish getting ready before I made us both late to church. As I finished my hair, I quickly ran around the corner, grabbing my Bible and keys and heading to the door when I hear, “Hey Kaitlin, can you wait just a minute?” When I turn around, Cal is on one knee in my living room floor. After a few happy tears and “YES!,” we were still able to make it to church on time and enjoy our first church service as a newly engaged couple.
What have you most enjoyed about being engaged?
Kaitlin: My fiance is truly my best friend, so it has been a lot of fun to plan not only our wedding but also our future together during this sweet engagement period.
Tell us about your engagement session.
Kaitlin: Our engagement session took place in downtown Nashville. Our original plan was to capture golden hour, but the Easter-weekend, spring storms had another idea. Fortunately, our photographer was flexible and determined to make the most of the cloudy day. We were able to capture several photos before we heard rumbling in the sky above which was quickly followed by a downpour of rain. We quickly found ourselves running down the sidewalk seeking cover. This moment, though completely unplanned, turned into one of my favorite photo of Cal holding his jacket over my head and us laughing as we sought cover. After that moment, we did a quick outfit change and to our surprise, the rain ceased and we were able to keep taking pictures. In some of our pictures, you can see water under our feet, but it serves as a fun memorry of that day.
Where did it take place? Was there any significance to the location?
Kaitlin: We took our photos outside of Union Station and the Frist Art Museum in Nashville. I grew up in a small town outside of Nashville and we will be getting married in Spring Hill. Many of our guests will be traveling from out of state, so it was important to us that we captured photos that truly encompassed Tennessee. I can’t think of a better place than the heart of Music City!

What was it like working with your photographer?
Kaitlin: Kara was amazing! We had not met prior to our engagement session, but she made us both feel so comfortable during our session. I am very excited to see what she captures on wedding day.
What did you like most about the session?
Kaitlin: As ironic as it may sound, the impromptu rain was my favorite part. It created genuine smiles, an unforgettable memory and one of my very favorite engagement photos.
Would you recommend the photographer and why?
Kaitlin: I would 100% recommend my photographer! Not only is she so kind and funny, but she made us both feel comfortable around the camera.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Kaitlin: This season of life has been so much fun and such a blessing. I can’t wait to marry my best friend Tennessee in just a few short months!

Huge thank you to this couple for sharing this rainy day e-sesh with us! If you love this engagement session as much as we do, we’ve got even more inspiration here!
