Tell us about Alaina Abbott Photography and how long you’ve been in business.
Alaina: I have been professionally photographing weddings of all shapes and sizes for over six years. I started out by shadowing my peers and mentors until I was ready to build up my own clientele. Now, I’ve photographed over 50 weddings across the entire country. My goal is to be your favorite fly on the wall during your big day – your mom will love me, I can get a crowd going on the dance floor, and I will most certainly tell you if you have hair out of place! My job is bigger than being a photographer – it’s being your hype girl and supporter through the entire wedding process, planning to partying!
How did you get started in weddings?
Alaina: I grew up in Memphis, TN where St. Jude Cancer Research Center is located – I shot my first wedding at age 18 for a family undergoing treatment at St. Jude and it truly changed the way I see the world. There are few times in our lives when all of our loved ones gather together and partake in such abounding joy, and experiencing that firsthand was so humbling and powerful. The kindness that family showed me and their appreciation for my photos was something I will never forget. It is so important to live in the moment, but photographing the moment so memories live on is equally as special.
What’s the philosophy behind Alaina Abbott Photography?
Alaina: My philosophy is simple: this is the best day of your life, so it automatically becomes one of the best days of mine. Your wedding is about YOU and your love story, not a bunch of schedules and posed photos. It’s about hugging your mom a little tighter at the end of the aisle, offering your grandfather a tissue when he sees you in your dress for the first time, and dancing until you can’t feel your feet with the best friends you’ve known since middle school. AAP is all about you. Your story, your love, your day. We’ll take the traditional Christmas-card-esque photo to hang above your mantle, but we’re also going to laugh, cry, drink, and be merry. This celebration is worthy of remembering every detail, and with me, you rest in the confidence of knowing it’s all beautifully documented.

Alaina: I am proud of my well crafted duality of confident leadership and intuitive observation. I know how to take charge during family photos and when to step back and let those real, authentic moments shine. I won’t interrupt your maid of honor reapplying your mascara after your first look, but I will line all 200 of your guests up perfectly for your sparkler exit at the end of the night. I’ll wrangle your wedding party, tie a bowtie, fix your veil, and hype you up like we’ve been best friends for years, then quietly melt into the background to catch those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it candids that tell the real story of your day. Alaina: I’m seeing more and more people blend the traditional, classic wedding photos with more candid, emotional photos. So many photographers are adjusting to this so well – it’s beautiful to see my colleagues share their images as we all adapt to this new era of mixing styles.
