Tell us about your engagement!

Emmy: Little did Kyle know it had always been my dream to get engaged at the Biltmore Estate. Little did I know, Kyle had been planning on proposing there to me ever since we went there together back in 2017. On December 8th, we took a little road trip to Asheville, North Carolina for what I thought was just a sweet date day at the Biltmore. Kyle and I had talked about engagement/marriage a little earlier that year but had both agreed that we would wait until the next year before anything happened. So you can imagine the internal battle I was experiencing when Kyle suggested we go to the Biltmore in December. Part of me thought that wait maybe this is going to happen today but then the other part of me was trying to be realistic. Almost the whole day went by and he hadn’t proposed, so I resigned myself and decided to still have a good attitude no matter what lol. But before we left, Kyle said there was one more spot he wanted to show me. He took me to the top of a hill with an incredible view of the estate in the background and said he had something to give me. He pulls something out of his pocket and I’m freaking out and low and behold it was an…ornament!! You can imagine my the let down on that moment but still resigned to have a good attitude I turned the ornament over and was about to say Aw thank you so much when I read on the back, “Emmy will you marry me?” I look up and Kyle is down on one knee holding out a ring and I immediately started jumping up and down with happiness and excitement!!! I screamed yes with my whole heart and then Kyle and I got to spend the rest of our time at the Biltmore taking pictures because he had hired a professional photographer to capture the day. It was a fairytale day that I will never forget and I love to reminisce on. I am one lucky girl!!

What was the vision for your wedding?

Emmy: My colors were dusty rose/blush pink with the boys in blue suits. I wanted our wedding to be the perfect combination of classy casual. Fancy meets fun!! Everything was outdoor so I wanted to have a sort of whimsical garden party feel to the day. We had string lights and lanterns, an outdoor dance floor under a white tent with tables in the grass with different flower arrangements in the center. I wanted to have a live band playing throughout the night and this really added to the fun and lively atmosphere. After a short ceremony in the garden, we danced all night under the lights with all our friends and family on a perfect breezy June evening.

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Emmy: Elegant, simple, romantic, meets fairytale garden summer party.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Emmy: People, people were my highlights!!! It was so special being surrounded by all of our loved ones and feeling truly cherished and celebrated by the ones who are most important to us. I really loved having a first look with my bridesmaids, I’ll never forget the looks on their faces when they saw me in my dress for the first time!! I also loved having a prayer time with my mom, mother in law, and bridesmaids right before I walked down the aisle, this was such a sweet and special moment. I’ll never forget that first moment Kyle and I shared as husband and wife, walking back down the aisle together and then me jumping into his arms once we got back inside, and just the joy on our wedding party’s faces when they came to hug us after the ceremony was over. I really loved dancing with all my people, once I took off my high heels and put on my tennis shoes Kyle and I had one of the best nights of our lives dancing with each other and all our friends and family all night long.

What are some tips you can share with other brides planning their weddings?

Emmy: Don’t get so caught up in the planning of everything and the small details/organization of the day that you forget what this is all truly about. You and your future hubby!!! This event is not about a wedding, it’s about a marriage. It’s about your people coming together with you to celebrate the future the two of you have to look forward to. Be joyful, not stressed, let the little things go and savor this special time. Remember to laugh, let loose, and really take in the people around you. Keep a journal, especially the day after, write down all the sweet moments and special things said so you’ll never forget them.

Thanks so much to Ashton Brooke Photography and to Emmy and Kyle for sharing their whimsical garden wedding at Pleasant Hill Mansion with us. We wish you both all the happiness in this exciting chapter!
