Southern Whimsical Wedding at Venue at Birchwood

Jordan and Chance’s timeless celebration is one filled with impeccable detail, yet maintains a subtle and sweet appearance. Considering Jordan was a former editor-in-chief for a wedding magazine, it’s no wonder she knew just how to make their whimsical southern wedding dreams come true. Hiring the best Nashville wedding vendor team allowed for the effortless vision, including printed linens, nautical straws, and Jordan’s favorite grazing tables to flourish at Venue at Birchwood. The vibe was so wonderful that not even the downpour of rain stopped Jordan and Chance from having fun. In fact, they embraced it and and danced beneath the pitter patter while John Myers Photography captured them enjoying the moment. There’s a whole lot of beauty to discover in this gallery and wedding video. Scroll ahead and enjoy!

Tell us about your engagement!

Jordan: My engagement was truly epic. Chance started planning it about a month before the big day when he invited a bunch of our friends for a weekend at his family’s farm. I assumed it was just going to be a fun fall weekend, but I was dead wrong. When the weekend arrived, Chance told me that he needed to go early to set up for the night’s bonfire and that I should ride down with one of our good friends. That afternoon I jumped in the car and we started the 1.5 hour drive to Manchester, TN. When we got there, Chance’s dad picked me up in their gator and drove me down to the pond where Chance first told me he loved me. The sun was actively setting and it was already pretty dark, but I could see that the dock was lit up with lights and flowers and that Chance was standing out on it alone. I didn’t fully understand what was happening until my dad opened the door of the gator and walked me down to the dock. Chance eventually got on one knee and as soon as I said yes, the sky lit up with fireworks. It was perfect. My closest friends and family were there, and Chance even hired one of my favorite singer/songwriters to play for us that evening. We toasted with champagne, ate really great food, and swapped stories around a huge fall bonfire. The surprises didn’t end there—the weekend continued with a day out in Nashville where even more of my friends showed up to surprise me and ended with a surprise dinner with all of our extended family. I still don’t know how he managed to make it all happen and cram that many surprises into 48 hours.

What was the vision for your wedding?

Jordan: I used to be the editor-in-chief for a city wedding magazine, so I’d seen my fair share of wedding inspo. When it came to my own, I knew that my number one priority would be the guest experience. Most of my family and friends traveled in from out of town, so I wanted to make sure the wedding was infused with as many personal touches as possible, from the welcome boxes (we added a custom QR code with a playlist of all our favorite songs for guests to listen to throughout the weekend), to the provided transportation, to dance floor flip flops and the custom koozies, I wanted our guests to feel like they were like truly a part of the weekend and leave feeling like they truly got a glimpse at who are as a couple.

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Jordan: I really leaned into a traditional southern garden party theme. The Venue at Birchwood has such a classic southern look without being overly rustic, so it was the perfect place to marry southern tradition with a sort of Hamptons garden party vibe. The printed linens, striped straws and long grazing table helped add to that whimsical vibe. Our last name is “Bouldin” so we also leaned into the idea of “Golden Hour” and having that whimsical, hazy, romantic vibe on full display during the cocktail party .

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Jordan: Chance and I grew up in the same hometown and had a lot of the same friends growing up, (we “dated” in middle school and stayed in touch through the years before finally reconnecting) so it was really fun to see our combined guest lists. Our guest list was mostly comprised of mutual friends so it was fun to see all of the people that love us come together. It also started MONSOONING during our reception and continued to pour throughout the night- instead of letting it ruin our night we took the opportunity to dance in the rain together. Looking back now, it’s so representative or our marriage. We know not every day will be sunshine and rainbows, but we’re committed to dancing through every storm that comes our way. Some other highlights- – I’m a huge charcuterie fan (i mean, who isn’t), so the long grazing board was definitely a fun nod to that. – Our signature drinks were inspired by cocktails at one of our favorite bars, Mother’s Ruin – My girlfriends and I got on stage and closed the night with “Goodbye Earl” by The Chicks

What are some tips you can share with other brides planning their weddings?

Jordan: Have fun and try to enjoy the process! It can be very easy to get overwhelmed, but at the end of the day, it’s about celebrating the love you have for one another! The second thing is to be careful of the comparison game. I am so happy with how our wedding turned out because we chose everything through a lens of “what’s most important to us,” instead of “what everyone else has done.” I think that left us really happy in the end because we didn’t feel like we spent money or time or energy on things that weren’t truly important to us.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?

Jordan: Big props to our photography, videography, hair and makeup and planning team! It’s so important when planning this that you find the right day-of team, because they end up being such a huge part of your big day. May HMU team kept me calm and in good spirits throughout the getting ready process, and John and his team were the true MVPs when it came to taking care of me and keeping my nerves at bay. I don’t think it would have been the day it was without such an excellent team that went to great lengths to make sure that everything went perfect for us!
