Who was a part of your wedding team?

Kayla: Our photographer, Perry Prairie Photography. She captured the day beautifully and I will cherish those photos for the rest of my life. They were all so lovely. Madison Square Bridal in Owensboro, KY helped me find the perfect dress. Wtiches of SNB in Evansville, IN altered it and just did an amazing job. Our food was catered from The Southern Belle in Hopkinsville, KY and everyone said it was delicious. Our DJ was the groom’s cousin, Scotty, who is out of the DJ business, but did a fantastic job. And Sara from Burdoc Farms helped guide me along the way.

How did you guys meet?

Kayla: We both worked at a game store at the time. I was the assistant manager and he was an associate, so our love was forbidden at the time, haha. Saturday nights were usually pretty slow and that’s when we were both scheduled to work, so we ended up spending most of our time talking and it just went from there. We worked together for almost a year before we started dating. We did tell our boss as soon as things started getting serious and she was very supportive. She’s now one of my best friends and I was honored to have her as a bridesmaid.

Tell us about your engagement!

Kayla: Our engagement was a little uneventful compared to most. He just randomly woke me up one day and asked me to marry him and I was thrilled to say yes. The only time I’ve been happy after being woken up.

What was the vision for your wedding?

Kayla: I wanted a special day to highlight ourselves as a couple, while also celebrating the combination of our families. Something elegant and beautiful, but also with little touches of us thrown in. I feel like we captured that pretty well. We had a lot of songs from movies, as film was the first thing we really bonded over.

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Kayla: Moody forest, mostly inspired by the amazing surroundings at our venue, Burdoc Farms.

What details were used to create your theme?

Kayla: Our colors were green and black. I made terrariums to be places as centerpieces. Inside of them were dirt, moss, rocks, and golden animals that I spray painted. Geometrical candle holders and green garland. I had a black arch that we wrapped with more greenery. My bridesmaid’s/mister’s dresses/suit were different shades of green. The groomsmen were in black.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

Kayla: I splurged a little more than I wanted to on decorations. I ended up buying a bit more than I needed, but I don’t regret a thing. But I did make sure that most of the things I bought were on sale!

What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Kayla: Remind yourself that this day is to celebrate your love for one another. It doesn’t have to be Pinterest perfect. Things are going to go wrong and you will feel like you’re drowning in stress. Just try to see those hiccups along the way as a preview to the ones you’ll eventually face in your lives together. Use them as opportunities to be a team and overcome.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Kayla: My Shiba Inu, Ronin, as our ring-bearer. He was the perfect boy all day.

Kayla, we love your advice and your moody forest Burdoc Farms wedding couldn’t have looked better! Congratulations, you two!
