Lauren + Nicholas

7.10.2021

How did you meet?

Lauren: We met at a game night during our very first week of college at The University of Alabama.

What is your proposal story?

Lauren: Summer of 2020 was in full swing and we wanted to take a trip while still being COVID-cautious, so we figured the mountains were a pretty good place to escape to. We spent a few days in Asheville, NC and I decided I wanted to take pictures on a mountain during sunrise while we were there. Nick saw this as the perfect opportunity to propose, so he hired a photographer to sneak up to Roan Mountain during sunrise and capture the moment for us. The sunrise was gorgeous and it was such a magical morning!!

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

Lauren: I showed someone a picture of our venue during the early stages of the planning process, and they casually told me, “”Oh, so you’re hosting the royal wedding.”” Ever since then, I’ve described our wedding vision as “”The Royal Wedding featuring Elegant Industrial Vibes.””

I’ve always loved greenery with white, pink, and gold accents when perusing Pinterest boards, and that’s exactly what our wedding colors ended up being. The bridesmaids wore a muted pink and had pops of baby pink in their bouquets because I didn’t want anything super “”loud”” since the ceremony space is already a statement piece by itself. Keeping with the traditional vibes, the groomsmen and groom all wore black tuxes with very simple boutonnieres. It all tied together really well with the warm, moody tones of both the church and reception space.

In terms of location, I never used to imagine myself having a wedding in a church setting. However, I walked past Wightman Chapel enough times in my life on my trips to the nearby San Antonio Taco Co, so I figured I would at least tour it — and DANG… it’s gorgeous!! I was instantly in love with the church, but still needed a reception space that would host all of our guests. We stumbled upon Room With A View via a random Facebook post, and it ended up being exactly what we needed!

Tell us about your attire choices.

Lauren: I went to multiple dress shops and never really had the “Say Yes To The Dress” moment, even when I tried on my actual dress for the first time. During my shopping experience, I was torn between the silhouette of the dress I wore and the sleeves of another dress, so I ended up having my dress sleeves completely torn off and bought extra fabric so that my alterations girl could recreate that entire part of the dress. Once the sleeves were added on, I was IN LOVE and so happy with my decision. For shoes, I wore a pair from the “Blue” by Betsey Johnson collection, which all have blue soles (it was my something blue). My earrings were from Olive and Piper.

Nicholas: I wanted to look classic, so I went with a black tuxedo. Mine and my groomsmen’s’ bowties were from my favorite bowtie brand (Brackish) which I thought was a nice touch. “

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

Lauren: The most important things to me were the photography and flowers. I honestly wish we had done even more floral arrangements, but goodness they’re expensive! We chose to skip out on favors and we don’t regret it at all.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Lauren: My favorite part was before the ceremony when I was supposed to be “hiding” in the bridal suite, but I snuck around to one of the side doors of the chapel so that I could hear our musicians playing. It was surreal realizing that they were playing the music that I picked out and I was about to walk down the aisle at my very own wedding! I also loved getting to dance the night away with my friends and family from all different stages of life. It was a really sweet day.

Nicholas: My favorite part was getting to dance with Lauren all night.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

Lauren: We didn’t DIY too much, except for rehearsal dinner table decorations and all of the paper products (sans wedding invitations).

For the rehearsal dinner, we chose to collect wedding photos from all of our parents’ and grandparents’ and display them by their seat at dinner.

For paper products, we went wild on Etsy! From the seating chart to table numbers, welcome signs and wedding programs, and even the parking signs… everything was done on Etsy. (I’m honestly not even sure if it saved us that much money in the long run, so I’m not sure that I would take that route again.)

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Lauren: It was a three tier cake from Baked In Nashville. We chose to keep it pretty simple and just had our florist add in a few small arrangements. The entire cake was bourbon vanilla flavored with vanilla buttercream frosting — so yummy!

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

Lauren: At my bridal shower, my grandmother presented me with an applique that was on her own wedding dress. She told me how her wedding dress had as many appliques as she had granddaughters, so she gave one applique to each granddaughter before they got married. I had my applique sewn onto the underside of my dress, and used it as my “Something Old” for our wedding day.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Lauren: Be organized!! Spreadsheets are your very best friend. Also, DON’T PROCRASTINATE because it gets very overwhelming very quickly. Make your budget before you do anything else!

Congratulations Lauren and Nicholas! If you love their fairytale industrial wedding at Room With A View as much as we do, click for even more wedding inspiration!
