How did you guys meet?

Megan: We met in middle school and continued being friends through the rest of middle school and high school. He asked me to our senior prom and we started dating shortly after that. We ended up breaking up and then 3 years later started dating again. I knew then I was never going to let him go again and now he is my husband!

Tell us about your engagement!

Megan: Our engagement was perfect! He had told me he wanted to go to Owensboro one Sunday to enjoy the river front. Of course I didn’t mind at all and always enjoy time together. We were sitting there enjoying the evening when all the sudden our families come up behind us. He then stood me up and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course i said yes, I’d been waiting for this day forever. It was so special to have our family there to celebrate with and enjoy the moment with.

What was the vision for your wedding?

Megan: I have always envisioned my wedding being in a barn during October. I got really nervous that I was not going to be able to make that happen when I started calling about venues. I talked to Sara at Burdoc and she actually had a date available in her barns for the month of October. We went to look at the venue and from the moment we step foot into the barn I knew that was the place. It was something I have always seen myself getting married in and they were absolutely beautiful. I am thankful that her barns made my vision of my wedding come true!

What was your theme and what inspired it?

Megan: We didn’t really have a “theme” for our wedding but we was obviously in a barn so we went more for a modern farmhouse look. I got a lot of inspiration for Pinterest! I didn’t want anything too farm like or too elegant. We found the happen medium of making everything look super good in the barns but also making it look very nice for a wedding. It was absolutely perfect.

Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?

Megan: We did a lot of our decorations ourself and I think that is where I saved a lot of money. My sister is very talented and so crafty and between her and my mother they made all the decorations look amazing for the wedding! We also made all the bouquets and boutonnieres for the wedding ourself, and honestly I thought those turned out so pretty! We did a lot of DIY, as long as we could pull it off and it look good for the wedding.

What words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?

Megan: My only advice is to take in every moment of planning your wedding. Enjoy it all and make it everything you want. It seems like so much work to do but it is so worth it when it comes to your special day! Make memories planning your special day with the ones you love, because one day it’ll all be over and those memories will be so special.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Megan: I feel like the whole day was filled with special moments. I think back to that day and just think how I got to marry my best friend and that is the most special moment of it all. Our wedding day went by so fast and several things were a blur until I got my wedding pictures back. Thankfully, my photographer Lauren Grant captured all the right moments that day. From getting my hair done, to my mom helping me in my dress, from our first look and first kiss as a married couple, all the way up to our send off. My wedding pictures are priceless and remind me of several special moments from that day.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding?

Megan: All I have ever wanted was to get married to my husband and he finally proposes. Then a few months down the road Covid-19 hits and shuts everyone down. All I could think about was “wow I’m finally getting married and now I might not get the wedding of my dreams because of Covid.” It was difficult to get things done when stores were closed for so long, that I started to panic. I know several people didn’t come because of Covid and even though I totally understood, it was still upsetting. Planning a wedding during a global pandemic was a challenge but I will say everything that lead to our wedding was all worth it! Everything came together perfectly. We had an amazing wedding with several people there to celebrate with us!
