Tell us about Burdoc Farms + how long you’ve been in business.
Sara: Burdoc Farms has been in the wedding business for 9 years, but the Shepherd family have owned and operated the farm since 1952. We are unique in that we are a family owned business and live on the property where the venues are locate. We have 2 venues on our 700 acre property, both of them being one of a kind and having many amenities that will provide you with your own personal wedding experience.
The Tobacco Barn Venue is our open air venue but all buildings are covered and protected from the weather, with 4 buildings for your use….the chapel barn, reception barn, man cave and bridal suite. If you are a nature lover, then the Tobacco Barn venue is the right venue for you.
Our newest addition, Keith Glen, is our modern, industrial building with lots of drama with a 30 foot wall of glass facing a pond with our resident swans, exposed steel beams, wood features and a natural stone fireplace nestled in a grove of trees. Keith Glen is heated and air conditioned if you just don’t want to take your chances at an outdoor venue.
How did you get started in weddings?
Sara: Our daughter wanted to get married on our farm. My husband spent a lot of time fixing up the barn we had on the property for her wedding. People attending the wedding kept telling us how beautiful the property was, and how we needed to do this full time, so we thought we would give it a try. First year in business we had 12 weddings and we were excited about that and now we have 60 to 80 weddings per year. Who would have thought it!
What’s the philosophy behind Burdoc Farms?
Sara: We want couples to have an amazing and stress free experience at Burdoc Farms. There are many beautiful venues to chose from, however, how you are treated at your venue is what makes us stand out from others. We understand what a financial and emotional undertaking a wedding is, so our goal and mission is to make sure Burdoc Farms is the least of your worries.
What are your strengths compared to other wedding venues?
Sara: We are much more flexible than most venues and we are affordable. I think that is our strengths.
What attracts couples to book Burdoc Farms?
Sara: The couples that appreciate nature and many natural features are the ideal couples for Burdoc Farms. Couples that do not mind going a little bit off the beaten path or traveling a little bit for the unique experience at Burdoc Farms are our ideal couples.
What is the most innovative new product, service, style or other aspect of your industry that brides and grooms might appreciate?
Sara: We are now doing all inclusive package so we can provide a one stop shop at Burdoc Farms. Although I know that is not new to the industry, it is new to us.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about Burdoc Farms?
Sara: We are 3rd generation family owned business and we care about our clients on another level than most wedding venues. We are flexible and open and will work with all couples no matter their backgrounds, religious affiliations and sexual orientation. Our priority is that all couples have the once in a lifetime experience at Burdoc Farms that their wedding should be.
