Sarah + Austin’s Waterfall Engagement Shoot By Glenai Gilbert Photography | Engagements & Proposals

I'm not going to lie… I'm totally listening to Waterfalls by TLC right now because this waterfall shoot from Glenai Gilbert is so dreamy (and I'm kind of cheesy like that)! Sarah + Austin got brave during their shoot and not only posed in front of the waterfall, but hopped right into the waterfall! Any couple who is willing to take risks with their engagement session – getting soaked to the bone in their everyday clothes, and throwing caution to the wind with their hair + makeup gets extra wedding points in my book! See all of their dreamy photos below along with a behind the scenes look from Glenai on the shoot day!

Sarah Walls + Austin Garner

Engagement Shoot Date | 7.17.17

Wedding Date | 9.9.17

Tell us about the couple!

Glenai: Sarah is one of the friendliest brides I have ever worked with. Very easy going, go with the flow type of person we (wedding photographers) always hope for in clients. Her bubbly personality is so contagious! Austin is the perfect fit for Sarah and her adventurous spirit. They both enjoy the outdoors/exploring/ anything active.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from the day?

Glenai: I think all couples get a little nervous about being in front of a camera, but they instantly were able to connect with one another (even with an audience). I always start sessions by playing games and having fun conversations with clients to loosen them up. One prompt I use is “Whisper her favorite dessert in her ear with your sexiest voice…” – and her response was “Carrot Pie,” which definitely surprised me! I always expect brownies, ice cream, or cheesecake- not carrot pie! Austin saying that in his sexiest voice definitely brought a lot of laughs. (Prompt Thanks to UnPosed Guide by Love is a Big Deal). As a photographer, it can be difficult getting the chemistry between couples to reflect on camera, but there was a moment where Austin was sitting down and Sarah was just facing him that said so much (as the water is falling down around them). It was just so tender and raw, and their love definitely shined through the beautiful setting, and made them the focus.

Did they have any special requests or unique challenges that you had to work together to overcome?

Glenai: Sarah and Austin brought one of their dogs, which Austin had to carry down a flight of stairs to get to the waterfall in his formal wear. We drove 2 hours to Rock Island to get pictures at the lookout/main rock waterfall, but it was closed because they had opened the dam. We were able to find this other waterfall thankfully, and Austin and Sarah were all too eager to jump in with complete disregard for what that were wearing and have fun with one another. There was automatic laughter and joy!
