This couple’s love for music inspired them to include karaoke as a way to have fun with family and friends. (Great idea!) The look of pure enjoyment on the faces of wedding guests, especially during that karaoke bit with the groomsmen, confirm that the couple chose the perfect way to entertain their loved ones.

How would you describe your style as a couple?
We definitely like to have fun and love music! We like a more modern, non-traditional style, yet with simple and elegant facets.
Where did you get your inspiration?
I got a few ideas from bridal magazines, including Ashley’s Bride Guide actually, some from Pinterest, and help from our planner/coordinator, Brittany Olsen. I have also been a bridesmaid 10 times and have been to countless other weddings so that really helped me determine things I did and did not want for my own wedding. When choosing what colors to use, I knew we wanted something simple, classic, and elegant so I drew inspiration from my all-time favorite actress, Audrey Hepburn, who is the epitome of classic and elegant.
How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?
We decided to use very simple, classic colors: black, white, and silver/gray with hints of lavender, which I think turned out beautifully.
When deciding on our venue, we knew we wanted to keep it simple and easy for our guests and find a space that would allow us to have the ceremony and reception in one location. We also wanted something modern and industrial looking with hardwood floors and exposed brick, and Avenue was the perfect place! Brittany designed the most beautiful space and the draping and lighting really made it feel very elegant, yet warm and inviting.
Because my husband and I love music and love to have a good time, we decided to include karaoke at the end of our reception and also had glowsticks available for guests during the reception and for our exit. It was awesome!
What was your (or your guests’) favorite aspect of your wedding?
I absolutely loved everything about our wedding. That may sound cliché, but every single thing was gorgeous.
We had so many compliments on our wedding – everything from the food, lighting, draping, our DJ and music selection, the flowers, and, of course, the glowsticks were a huge hit! My husband and I really loved our decision to include karaoke at the end of the reception and I know that was a big hit with our guests as well.
Where did you splurge? Where did you save/DIY?
We spent more money on our overall décor, like the draping, lighting, and furniture. Lighting and draping were important to me because I think those things can really make the space beautiful so I didn’t want to skimp on that.
Our venue allowed us to bring our own alcohol, which saved us some money, and we got to keep whatever was left over. We used the bridesmaids’ bouquets as centerpieces for the larger tables at the reception, which also helped save some money. I was also fortunate to have my accessories lent or given to me by family and friends, so I didn’t spend a whole lot of money on those things either.
Our DJ is a friend, so he gave us the “friends and family discount,” which helped a lot. We had originally decided to leave our reception in a vintage Jaguar but decided to save a few hundred dollars and chose to ride away in a golf cart through Joy Ride, which actually turned out better and definitely fit our fun, silly personalities.
Who were your favorite vendors and what made them exceptional?
I can’t say enough great things about all of our vendors, especially G Catering and our photographer, Matt Andrews. Matt worked so hard for us, and I know it couldn’t have been easy during the reception because I did not want to leave the dance floor! We had several guests comment on how awesome our photographer was and how hard he worked that day/night.
Our wedding planner/coordinator, Brittany, was the absolute best, and none of this would have been possible or easy without her. She was on top of everything from the very beginning and it all turned out better than I could have imagined. She made our wedding day stress free!
The girls with Katie Russo Beauty, Kat and Beth, did a phenomenal job on hair and makeup for my eight bridesmaids, my mom, and me. They were wonderful to work with! Lauren Atkinson, our florist, was awesome and created beautiful arrangements and a bouquet.
Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?
I would not change a thing! Choosing Avenue and Randi Events were the best decisions we made, and having Brittany guide and help us through the entire process made wedding planning such a breeze and so much fun. I loved every minute of it!
In one sentence, what words of advice do you have for couples in the midst of their planning?
Relax, have fun, and remember the most important thing is that you get to marry your favorite person and that’s really all that matters.
