Kristen + Paul's Gaelic Love in the Wedding Woods in Nashville by Smash Studios

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Today we have a wedding that pairs so well with the theme – a Gaelic wedding! Ashley from Smash Studios Photography shared Kristen + Paul's wedding in the woods with us and there's greenery galore! The rainy day encompassed the theme perfectly and Kristen's headpiece was a relek straight from Ireland. The Gaelic emblems around Paul's ring and each green detail added all the more meaning to the couple's love for the outdoors. And can we just talk about Paul's vintage car, The Thing? It provided such a fun element to their day and showed off more of their personality to their 95 guests. Check out all the photos from Kristen + Paul's wedding below!

Who helped coordinate your wedding?

Kristen: Our wedding team was our family and friends. Special thanks to the Newby clan and my parents David and Pam Edds for braving the rain and being willing to travel to Lebanon to see this vision come to life. My bridesmaids Katherine Neil, Kim DeRoche, and Ella DeRoche for helping with set up as well as keeping a bride calm. Our friends Jake and Gena Johnson did a miracle job of cleaning up and breaking down to get trailers reloaded. My coordinator/best friend and behind the scenes goddess Emily Brown helped keep the decor and timeline on track as well as organizing vendors.

Tell us about your engagement!

Kristen: Paul and I had been together for 5 years when we took an annual vacation to Edisto Beach with his family. He popped the question on the beach at sunset. When we got back to the house his mother had champagne waiting. We worked hard for the next year and a half to get a simple yet magical wedding together.

What was the vision for your wedding?

Kristen: Our goal was to showcase the natural beauty of the location and our love for the magic the woods holds for us. Paul and I love the outdoors and this venue is brilliant with life. To tie our structures to the outdoors we used rustic pieces rented from Sister's Vintage Rentals as well as whimsical decor to create a fairy woodlands/ Midsummer Nights Dream theme. With help from our families and some very dedicated friends we achieved our goal and then some.

Can you share any special moments or highlights from your wedding day?

Kristen: The entire day was a highlight! We laughed and danced. My face was sore from smiling so much.

What are some tips you can share with other brides planning their weddings?

Kristen: Plan ahead. No detail is too small so never assume. Communication is absolutely key to seeing your vision come to life. No matter how close someone is to you they can't read your mind. Communication also helps keep stress levels down. Also invest in radios for easy communication between the coordinator, groom, bride, and photographer!

From the photographer Ashley of Smash Studios Photography: Kristen and Paul were married at The Weddings Woods at Circle S Farms in Lebanon, TN– right outside of Nashville. The day was rainy and cloudy, just like Ireland, where Kristen and Paul took much of their wedding inspiration from. Kristen wore a circlet around her head instead of a traditional veil, which was handcrafted and brought over from Ireland. Similarly, Paul's wedding ring featured Gaelic knots around the band, and the venue exuded Irish influence– the ceremony location was straight out of a fairytale. During the ceremony, Kristen and Paul chose to forego the typical sand or unity candle ceremonies and instead unified their marriage with the planting of a new tree. With a break in the rain, we managed to take beautiful photos on the decorated wooden swing on the property, as well as with Paul's vintage car (The Thing), which was decorated for their glowstick getaway at the end of the night!
