Get Smart About Photo Booths - How to Compare Them When You Shop

Monday, August 12, 2013

Photo booths have become a popular fixture at wedding receptions over the last few years. Not only do they provide a fun activity for guests, the photo strips can be used for favors or your guestbook. We sat down with Amy from Photo Booth Nashville to get some information on the best ways to compare photo booths when booking your wedding or event.

ABG: What features should couples look at when comparing different photo booth companies?

Photo Booth Nashville: This is a great question. Most photo booth companies will offer unlimited prints and customized graphics. Make sure to ask to see sample photos to compare. If a company offers digital copies of the photos from your event, ask about the file size of the digital copies provided. At Photo Booth Nashville, our files are between 210-300kb each, and we not only provide the composite photo, but each individual shot with a native image of 11" X 17" so if our clients want to re-print photos and enlarge them, they'll be crystal clear.

Other things to ask about are the construction of the photo booth (is it a homemade "pipe and drape" booth?), print process (we use dye sublimation printers, the same ones at professional processors), sitting time, and printing time. Unlimited prints don't do you much good when it takes three minutes for each sitting.

ABG: What is the difference between the photo booths you offer and ones that other companies may offer in the area?

Photo Booth Nashville: We're the only Middle Tennessee provider of the patented Model 12 digital photo booth. The booths that we have are in over 40 markets worldwide, and there are constant updates and upgrades to our equipment. The Model 12 booths are made with sturdy, steel construction and they're modeled after vintage photo booths so they really feel like photo booths. There are many choices in Middle Tennessee now, and most of them are homemade and most companies only have one booth so in the event of a malfunction, you may be in trouble. We've always got an extra photo booth on our truck, so we're prepared for any unlikely problem that may occur.

ABG: What options do couples have to choose from with your photo booths?

Photo Booth Nashville: In addition to customized graphics, a disc with all the digital photos from the event, formal drapery, and a great variety of props, we pride ourselves on having the most professional and courteous attendants in Nashville. Unless a client specifically requests it, we always provide an attendant for the duration of the rental. We're proud of the reputation we've built and the number of high-end event and wedding planners that use us exclusively. Potential clients can take a look at a few testimonials on our website.

ABG: What things do a bride and groom need to think about when considering a photo booth? Venue size? Load-in and load-out of the photo booth?

Photo Booth Nashville: The most important thing a bride and groom should think about when considering a photo booth at their wedding is the same thing they should think about when choosing other vendors. There aren't many other days in a person's life as important as their wedding day, so it's not a time to sacrifice quality to get a "bargain." You can find a photographer to shoot your wedding for a few hundred dollars, and you can have your meal catered by a fast food restaurant, but you may not be satisfied with the results. With all the "photo booth" companies out there, it's imperative to do your homework. With regard to venue size and load-in and load-out, there's really nothing to worry about. During the booking process we go over every detail of load-in with our clients, and if there's any question we send a technician to the location to make sure there won't be any problems.

If you're looking to add that special touch to your wedding reception or special event, contact Amy at Photo Booth Nashville for all of your photo booth needs.

Everything You Missed from The Nashville NotWedding Bridal Showcase: The Faux Reception

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

On Monday, we featured the faux wedding ceremony from The NotWedding bridal showcase.  Today we are back with more!

The Reception

The faux wedding ceremony was followed by a first dance and lots of dancing, incliuding the Wobble!  We were treated to a very popular dinner buffet, refreshing drinks, champagne toasts, snacks.  The entertainment continued with a photo booth, cake cutting and a send off at the end of the night.

In a separate room, bridal show guests had the opportunity to enter the "Tunnel of Love", where we had a chance to meet the vendors who helped with the production of The NotWedding.

The wedding vendors

After taking in the sights, sounds and tastes, we felt it necessary to give special recognition to:

Emily O. Holmes | Emily designed the sweet invitations and RSVPs for this faux wedding.
Regalo Design | Damon and Sarah Goude and their team created the soft and romantic floral and moss backdrop and several gorgeous table centerpieces.
SOULflowers | Jessica Davis Fell arranged an amazing candlelit aisle as well as various table centerpieces through out the reception area.
Stockroom Vintage | Elizabeth Ulrich-Fanguy and her team showcased multiple rustic driftwood table centerpieces and displayed their new mid-century modern pieces in the vendor room.
Go Modern Vintage | Becca and Jessie crafted fun table centerpieces using local brew growlers to hold fresh flowers.
Street Tuxedo | The Street Tuxedo crew made sure the groom, his groomsmen and the ushers were dressed for the occasion in ceremony appropriate tuxedos, complete with custom neckwear by Otis James.
The Bride Room | The Bride Room provided the bride’s breathtaking lace ceremony gown and flirty reception dress, as well as the bridesmaids’ flowing dresses.
Lindsay Coletta | Lindsay Coletta handcrafted the bridal party bouquets and the groom’s party boutonnières, which complemented one another perfectly. She also arranged a sample reception table, set up in the center of the ceremony/reception room.
DJ Dan | DJ Dan provided the music that kept the party dancing well into the night. With a mix of current dance songs, romantic love songs and old rock ‘n’ roll there was something to bring everyone to the dance floor.
The Majestic Photo Booth Company | This one goes without saying – Who doesn’t love a photo booth?! Your booth is always a hit Majestic!
Savor The Flavor | Savor the Flavor cooked and served up some delicious southern cuisine for bridal show attendees to enjoy at The NotWedding reception.
Dales Fried Pies | Dales Fried Pies featured scrumptious fried pies in an assortment of flavors. We tried the apple pie (which was heart shaped) and it was absolutely divine.
Savida Sangria | Savida Sangria was served through out the ceremony and reception as the refreshment of choice.
Creative Crumbs | Abby of Creative Crumbs baked and designed an amazing wedding cake that fit the theme of The NotWedding perfectly.

The NotWedding was an amazing experience and it was great to see so many local vendors working well together. This speaks volumes as to what a friendly atmosphere the Nashville wedding industry is.

Great job to Callie Murray and team on your first Nashville The NotWedding bridal show event – here’s hoping for many more to come!

Spotted: Picture This Nashville as Photo Booth Entertainment at Luxury Nashville Wedding

Thursday, May 9, 2013

As I was looking through photos from Alana & Blayne's indoor garden wedding, whose floral design I featured last week.  I spotted a photo booth from my friend Elaine of Picture This Nashville.

If you are not familiar with Picture This Nashville, the booth style is different than traditional booths.  It is open air (meaning no structure to walk into for photos) and is operated by an interactive kiosk.  The associated photo album that you as the bride and groom will receive is highly customized, as you can read about in via this link.

Their wedding, designed and planned by Fete Nashville, was an opulent, formal event, but I was happy to see that the couple didn't leave out the fun aspect.  They brought in Picture This Nashville as as sure-fire way to entertain their wedding guests.

Should You Have a Photo Booth at Your Reception? What Should You Know?

Monday, April 29, 2013

Most brides are on the lookout for something that sets their wedding apart from everyone else’s. Some choose a unique venue. Some go with an outrageous dress. Some brides are searching for a grand gesture, while others are looking for just a little something to keep their guests talking for months and years to come. One of the most interactive ways to pep up the entertainment at your wedding is a photo booth.  Remember, a photo booth should NOT replace a professional photographer, but it's an excellent addition to your wedding.

If you are considering a photo booth for entertainment at your wedding, keep reading to learn more about booths based on our convo with Amy at Photo Booth Nashville.

ABG: Are photo booths still popular?

Amy: Yes! We get as many calls today as we did when we opened in 2007 as the first provider of digital photo booths in middle Tennessee from people saying “what a unique idea! I’d never heard of having a photo booth at my wedding until someone told me about a wedding they were at that had one.” Anyone that has seen Photo Booth Nashville at a wedding, party or corporate event can attest that it’s still a great way to preserve memories from the occasion and literally bring people together for some good, clean fun!

ABG: What makes Photo Booth Nashville stand out amongst the crowd?

Amy: Our booths offer a choice of color or black-and-white prints and we offer a wide variety of props if clients choose to include them. It has been our experience that “busy” backgrounds tend to distract the eye from the people in the photos, and they’re typically obscured anyway, so although customized backgrounds are possible we advise against them. From small children to grandma and grandpa, photo booths bring out the creativity in everyone, so gimmicks like special effects on photos have never been necessary in our booths.

ABG: How does Photo Booth Nashville stay on top of the trends/technological advances in the industry?

Amy: We’re the only middle Tennessee photo booth company that belongs to the International Photo Booth Association (americasphotoboothassociation.com). We’re part of a large network that is constantly working together to improve our products and share ideas to make the photo booth experience we provide second-to-none. Many other providers build their photo booths in their garages so they simply don’t have the benefit of collective research & development and product support that we do.

ABG: What should couples ask before signing a contract with a photo booth company? Anything they should be aware of?

Amy: Especially in today’s economy, pricing is very important. We encourage potential clients to ask lots of questions about what is included in their rental. Is their advertised price inclusive of scrapbook, attendant, and high-resolution digital copies of the photos from their event? Many companies advertise a low price then gouge clients as the event approaches with expensive add-ons.

Almost every company advertises unlimited prints like we do, but it’s important to ask about sitting times. Unlimited prints won’t mean much if each sitting takes 4 or 5 minutes. Other questions should include quality of digital copies included (some companies provide only low resolution digital copies and up-sell for print quality discs), what city their booths originate from, and how many booths they own (make sure they have a back-up in the event of equipment failure).

Ask what their booths are made out of – ours are all-steel construction and weigh over 800 lbs. In other words, the size of the check you write is important, but the old adage “you get what you pay for” definitely applies for photo booth rentals. We like to say you can serve McDonald’s hamburgers at your reception and save a lot of money on catering, but you’ll be serving your guests McDonald’s hamburgers.

With Amy’s advice on how to shop for photo booths, I hope I’ve made your search for something exciting to add to your reception a little shorter. So put on your best smile or silly face, get out there and get creative with Photo Booth Nashville!
