Girl meets boy at a local Nashville divebar and the rest is history... or so it goes with Jennifer + Chris! Their creative and eclectic engagement shoot with And How! Imagaing was definitely one to remember. The shoot started out at the place they met in Nashville with a group of friends for a laid-back party. Then it was off to a private rooftop overlooking downtown Nashville and finally the couple battled it out by playing their favorite video game - Mortal Kombat! I absolutely love that Jennifer + Chris's photos encapsulate what they like to do as a couple and show so many sides of who they are! See their photos below along with an exerpt from And How! Imagaing...
From the photographer, Amy of And How! Imaging: One of the main reasons we loved Jennifer and Chris' engagement session was because it really told a story that is personal to them; their story as a couple. We began the session where they met at a local dive downtown. They even had their friends that were there the night they met to come along to hang out for this part! Next we went to a roof top patio for some classy and romantic photos with some dancing thrown in the mix. The sun was setting behind them and the colors were so warm and alive. We finished off their session at their home, with them snuggled up doing one of their favorite things- playing Mortal Kombat (which is also our favorite game, so we were stoked when they suggested this!) We had such a great day working with them, and can't wait for the wedding!
Thanks for sharing this fun and eclectic engagement shoot with us, Amy! You can check out more of And How! Imaging's work here on their website and also here on Instagram!
Two weeks ago, Nashville Bride Guide was honored to talk about weddings on Today in Nashville! Kelly, Carole + I covered 5 Things To Do After You Get Engaged! We based our discussion off of a previous post on Nashville Bride Guide by the pros at Chef's Market: You're Engaged, Now What?. From #ringselfies to wedding venues, we covered most topics you'll want to start thinking about after you get engaged. Scroll down and press play on the video below to see the full interview!
1) Celebrate Your Engagement
Enjoy the moment! Tell your engagement story! Take a #ringselfie (and make sure you hashtag #brideguidebling)! This is when you should take a deep breath and take it all in. Don't feel like you need to have all the answers friends + family members are going to ask you. Relax and enjoy this time with your fiancè - pour some champagne and celebrate the moment!
2) Think About What Time of the Year You Want to Get Married
The first question people ask you is "what's the date?". Don't feel like you need to have an exact answer, however, think about what time of year you'd like to get married in. Maybe you've always dreamed of that spring wedding with blooming flowers or maybe the fall leaves and crips autumn air are more your style. Once you nail down the season, then you can start focusing on an actual date.
3) Create Your Vision
What's your wedding style? This is the fun part where you get to look at some awesome wedding magazines, search Pinterest for inspiration, and browse real Nashville weddings on wedding blogs (like Nashville Bride Guide!) This is when you start the brainstorming process - don't feel like you need to make any major decisions at this point. It's more to gather thoughts around the look of your wedding.
4) Think About Hiring a Wedding Planner or Day Of Coordinator
This is the point where you'll want to hire some help for planning your Nashville wedding. Think about it - you won't want your mom or sisters running around trying to put out any fires that may occur on your wedding day. You want them to sit back and really enjoy your day! Leave the logistics and behind the scenes part of your day to a professional. Plus, wedding planners can help you stick to your budget and shop for the best wedding professionals to fit within your budget.
5) Look at Venues
Your wedding planner can help you find venues that fit within your budget and also within your style (think back to steps 3 + 4!). Nashville has so many wedding venues to choose from! Do you want to get married downtown? Or maybe you like the countryside and a barn might be the best choice for you! Think about these things and start scheduling venue tours. :)

How did you get engaged? Tell us about your proposal:
Autumn: Scott is a neurosurgery resident and was on an away rotation for 3 months at MD Anderson in Houston. During the week, Scott talked to me about how much he was dreading call and how terrible it was. I decided to try to brighten his day in Houston by sending him lunch to the hospital. After I told Scott lunch was on it's way, little to my knowledge, Scott called to ask what was in the bag and inform the woman that she had a free lunch because he was in Nashville! My best friend Liz invited me to a Sounds game and I accepted. Shortly after I arrived with friends, a lady walked up to me and my friend Amanda and said that a random fan was selected to throw the first pitch and based on their seats it was one of us. Amanda didn't want to do it because she was in a dress (so I thought), so I volunteered! I texted and tried to FaceTime Scott to share the good news, but he said he was going into the OR and didn't respond. I was excited to send the video to him and knew he would think it was awesome! There were 2 different rain delays, causing me, Liz, and Amanda to go up into the top area of the stadium and hang out. Liz ensured that the group stayed around the section in case the lady came back. I was warming up her arm the whole time! After the rain delay the lady came back and got Amanda, Liz and me and walked us to the third base line. Liz and I threw the ball around, then finally I went out on the mound. Booster (Sounds mascot) kept pointing at random things in the stadium (while Scott was getting in place). I threw the first pitch, then started to walk off the field. I heard my name on the loud speaker and they said to look at the catcher. I thought, ok, who is the catcher?? When Scott took the mask off I realized it was him and freaked out because I couldn't believe he was in Nashville and knew it was happening!! They said to look at the scoreboard which said WILL YOU MARRY ME? I turned around to him and he was down on his knee. I was stunned and so incredibly happy! After the initial shock I finally said YES! Scott rented out the Band Box which was soon filled with family and close friends. They all celebrated with food and drinks and had a great time!! Everyone stayed until the end and the Sounds won with a go ahead home run!!! Check out the news story below!
What have you most enjoyed about being engaged?
Autumn: Being engaged is so much fun! It is so exciting to think about marrying Scott and starting our lives together in just a few short months. I have been overwhelmed by the love of my family and friends and experiencing their excitement and support for us has probably been my favorite part of being engaged.
Tell us about your engagement session. Where did it take place?
Autumn: Our engagement session took place at our venue- Graystone Quarry. We hired Details Nashville at one of the Nashville Bridal Shows and couldn't have done better! They were so fun to work with and really made Scott and I feel comfortable and natural.
What’s the significance of the location?
Autumn: Graystone Quarry is our wedding venue. We tried to minimize shots that showed the ceremony and reception building, but got some great grounds shots. We loved this venue because it is natural and somewhat simple, but elegant and inviting.
What did you like most about the session?
Autumn: I enjoyed cracking jokes with the guys of Details Nashville and learning more about them and their passion for photography. There was a lot of kissing involved and I didn't mind that either :)
Is there anything else you'd like to share with NBG readers?
Autumn: This was our second set of engagement pictures (the first was a free session I won with a different photographer). I think it is helpful to have a "warm-up" and do more than one. Staring at someone, even your best friend, for 2 hours is not the most natural thing to do. We felt much more knowledgeable about the process and with each other the second time around. Or just book Details Nashville. :)

Engagement season is here! And welcome to all of you newly engaged couples who may be reading this as we speak (er... type!). The questions from family and friends never seem to cease from the moment the ring gets on your finger, but don't sweat it. Take your time and celebrate every moment and don't feel any pressure to have all the answers. Our friends over at Chef's Market provided some insight for us: 3 tips on how to start your wedding planning process! This step by step guide will help you ease into the planning process. I'll let the professionals at Chef's Market take it from here!
The most wonderful time of the year has just passed, engagement season! According to Weddingwire, 33% of all engagements happen between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. If you were one of the lucky ones to get engaged in the last few months, you might be asking yourself: What now?
Here are a few tips from our catering experts of what to do now to start the wedding planning process:
1) Celebrate your engagement!
Don’t rush into any planning for a few weeks and take time to enjoy your fiancé and this special time in your life. If you haven’t already, show off your ring to all your friends and family. Perhaps have an engagement party! Last but not least, pop a bottle of champagne and soak in every minute!
2) Create your vision.
Find out what your style is. Are you wanting an intimate, casual, or more formal wedding? Once you figure out what direction you want to take then use tools like Pinterest, social media platforms like Instagram, wedding websites and magazines to help get visual ideas. Every year the wedding trends change so these tools will help you with knowing what is in and what is not.
3) Hire your vendors.
It is important to hire vendors that fit your vision. Make sure you research their past work to get an idea of what to expect. We recommend considering a wedding planner as they will be able to better direct you in this planning process. However, here at Chef’s Market we are able to help too. Not only can we cater to any bride’s wedding style, but we can also help provide planners and venue contacts who would be great to work with in order to capture your vision.
We couldn't agree more! Thank you so much to the professionals at Chef's Market - they've been doing it for years and years, so they are highly vetted in the industry! Visit their website and contact them for more information on how they can cater your wedding!
If you venture just past Nashville for an hour or two, you will find some pretty incredible hiking spots! From waterfalls to cliffs and more, Tennessee's got you covered in the nature department. And when it comes to shooting your engagement photos, the options are endless! When I saw Clayton + Jacob's engagement photos at Cummins Falls... literally standing in the waterfall, my heart skipped a beat. For a couple to be this daring in their engagement photos (no, this is not a styled shoot, these are their actual engagement photos!) is a rare find and I just had to ask Abi of Abigail Lauren Photography to share them with you all on Nashville Bride Guide. Plus, Clayton's gorgeous gowns cascading into the water are just a phenomenal wonder! Jumping into the cold January water was not the easiest thing for this couple to do, but I'm so glad they did in order to capture these incredible moments. Check out our interview with Clayton below along with all of Abi's stunning photos!
Tell us about your engagement session. Where did it take place? Was there significance behind the location?
Clayton: I had actually never been to Cummins Falls. Abi's initial plan was to go to Fall Creek Falls since she had been wanting to shoot at a waterfall and Jacob and I were hoping for a more outdoors-y location. Cummins turned out to be more convenient.
How did you come up with the concept and what was it like working with your photographer?
Clayton: It was all Abi! She envisioned every aspect of the shoot, and even sent me pictures of examples of what to wear. The bouquet was her idea, as was the location. She and I grew up together, so shooting with her feels a lot like hanging out! Regardless though, she has a knack for making shoots feel comfortable and laid back and fun - even if her subjects are hiking in dress clothes in the rain!
Your dresses are gorgeous! Where did you get them? And Village of Flowers did your bouquet, correct?
Clayton: Thank you!! The colorful two-piece dress was from a store called A'gaci. The deep purple dress was BCBG, and the white one was from Mimi & Dottie in Downtown Franklin. And yes, Abi worked with A Village of Flowers to get the bouquet!
What did you like most about the session? Were you anticipating jumping in the water?
Clayton: I honestly thought the setting of the shoot made it fun! The hiking, despite all the gear we were carrying, was something I would have liked to do anyway. As far as jumping in the water, I thought it might happen, but Jacob was not expecting it and particularly hates cold water. Which is why I picked up Taco Bell for him on the way and had it as bribery!
How did you get engaged? Tell us about your proposal:
Clayton: Jacob and I have a tradition of making day trips to the beach, since we go to school just a couple hours from some of our favorite spots. During our fall break, we decided to go spend the day on 30A. We hung out in Seaside, got lunch and went to our favorite bookstore. We decided to go to dinner at Havana in Rosemary Beach. Little did I know, he had already reserved a private table on the roof with a view of the ocean! But he didn't propose until after dinner when we walked back down to the beach!
What have you most enjoyed about being engaged?
Clayton: Honestly the way that friends and family have come together to celebrate and make things happen for the wedding has been incredible. We have been so grateful for the support, and are just excited for what's next!
What’s your wedding style?
Clayton: I think Bohemian with some traditional elements. We're getting married at Riverwood Mansion, which definitely has some traditional Southern elements. The inside of the mansion is so unique though, and the outside spaces are amazing, so I think the bohemian feel that I like will fit the venue well!
Is there anything else you'd like to share with NBG readers?
Clayton: Book Abi Lewis. Promise you won't regret it!
Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful photos with us, Abi, Clayton and Jacob! You can check out more of Abi's work on her webite here and on Instagram @abiroad95.
