Sara, an 11-11-11 Bride, Shares Her Rustic, Elegant Wedding at aVenue

Friday, August 17, 2012

Whether it's a small event or a large party, we love all that aVenue has to offer as a great venue space in downtown Nashville. The key point of aVenue is that you can make it your own, just as Matt and Sara did with both the help of Randi Events and some DIY efforts. From the reuse of old doors to soft lighting, they created a rustic, elegant feel that would be welcoming to any guest. We hope you enjoy this dowtown Nashville wedding!

My Wedding Details

How would you describe your style as a couple?

Rustic elegant or rustic romantic

How did you incorporate that style into your wedding?

I used moss green and chocolate brown for my colors. I am not much of a “pink” girl and Matt and I both love earth tones so we went with that color combination. It worked well with our branches, antique silver sets, etc.

Our guest place card were small chalk boards with a repurposed wood base and I had each name handwritten on the board with a chalk marker. Those were there’s to take home.

What was your guests’ favorite aspect of your wedding?

Our guest all commented on our vintage antique doors and windows hanging in the venue. We found them at various antique shops in Kansas and some around the Nashville area. Matt trucked two doors and a big window all the way from Kansas in his Tribute and practically hung out of the driver’s side window while driving to fit for 9 hours. True love!

Gift for bridesmaids? Groomsmen?

Burlap totes with monogram at bottom right corner. Inside was burlap Toms, personalized earrings, personalized stationary (handmade by me), and one personal item that related to them individually.

Socks that look like cowboy boots, pocket knives, and a bottle of their favorite whiskey.

What did you personalize?

I studied graphics in college so I made a few personally designed items that were sprinkled around the venue. I designed the drink stirrers, menu cards, and also a unique brochure that guest received in their hotel boxes filled with GooGoo clusters, an airplane sized bottle of Jack Daniels, personalized peanuts from “The Nashville Nut” located in the arcade, and RC Cola. The box had a custom cut stamp on the outside of it that I designed. (ABG Notes: check out Sara's blog for photos of her custom work!)

Also, I wore my grandmothers mink stole, my handmade bouquet had flowers made of my great grandmothers dress, my grandmothers brooches were the centers of the flowers, and I had one of my grandfather’s watch face around the steams and my other grandfather’s army pen attached as well.

Now that the wedding day is over, is there anything about your planning process you feel you could have done differently?

I would have let Laurie handle hiring my caterer. It would have been less of a hassle if I had let Laurie recommend and booked my caterer.

I’m new to the wedding industry. Before getting engaged I literally avoided any websites for weddings only because I knew, once I delved in, I would become obsessed…. And it’s true. Once I got engaged, I did become obsessed and luckily, about that time, I started working in the wedding industry. So my interest increased on two levels. Now I am a newlywed and still enjoying the industry. I love writing, social media and connecting to people; happily, I get to do all of this with ABG.

Great blog post. Thanks for sharing. Sara & Matt’s wedding is so classic! Sara has such great taste and design flare. She and all her bridesmaids look stunning. Thanks for the WhimWed mentions. We were honored to be a part of this wedding.
